Some books enter your TBR… this one made me want the whole saga!

I just love getting into a good saga series, and Firebound: Book One — Emerald to Steel has definitely made me curious about what comes next. ❤️‍🔥

This book brings together such an interesting mix of Viking history, folklore, medicine, magic, romance, and healing, but Linde’s journey is what really hooked me. She’s such a refreshing protagonist and definitely not the typical fantasy heroine. I loved how her analytical mind, medical knowledge, intuition, and unique perspective shape the way she sees the world and navigates everything thrown at her.

What I also really appreciated was the emotional depth woven into the story. It explores trauma, motherhood, identity, survival, and healing in a way that adds so much more to Linde’s journey. These themes made her character feel more layered and her experiences much more meaningful.

And the slow-burn between Linde and Gustav? I really enjoyed watching their connection develop naturally, especially against such a difficult and unpredictable backdrop. There’s something about a slow-burn that makes you want to keep turning the pages and see where the relationship eventually leads.

The Viking setting and magical elements make the whole story feel atmospheric and different, while the combination of history, folklore, medicine, and fantasy gives the book its own identity. It’s the kind of story that has a little bit of everything without losing sight of its characters and their journeys.

By the time I reached the end, I wasn’t just satisfied with the first book—I genuinely wanted to know what happens next. And honestly, that’s one of my favourite things about starting a saga series. When the first book leaves you wanting the rest of the story, you know you’re invested.

If you’re someone who loves historical fantasy, Viking-inspired settings, slow-burn romance, strong and unconventional heroines, magic, and stories with deeper themes, definitely put Firebound on your TBR.This saga deserves more readers.

Now I just need to know what happens next because I’m officially invested in this saga.🔥📚

Finally finished Happily (n)ever After: A Love Story of One More Day by Jinesh Bhagdev. ❤️

This one took me quite a while to finish because I wasn’t reading it continuously. I kept picking it up and putting it down, so definitely not a one-sitting read for me. But I’m genuinely happy I finished it because there was a lot about this story that I enjoyed.

What I liked most is that this isn’t an overly perfect version of love. It feels much closer to real life — relationships, family, everyday moments, difficult situations and all the uncertainty that comes with them.

I really enjoyed Viyaan and Meera’s journey. Their relationship has its sweet moments, but also differences, misunderstandings and circumstances that test them. Viyaan’s struggle with scleroderma adds another emotional layer to the story, especially because he’s someone who is so independent and used to being in control of his life.

Meera’s way of being there for him through everything was really touching. And then there’s Goldie 🐶❤️- I honestly didn’t expect to become this fond of a dog while reading a love story, but her bond with Viyaan was easily one of my favourite parts.

The book has some beautiful, warm moments, but there are also sections that are genuinely difficult to get through. That combination made the characters and their experiences feel quite human.

I also liked the way the story makes you question what a “happy ending” really means. Life doesn’t always turn out the way we planned, but there can still be love, strength and meaning in the moments we do get.

Jinesh Bhagdev’s writing is simple, relatable, and emotionally engaging without feeling overly dramatic. The story explores resilience, family dynamics, relationships, and the strength it takes to keep moving forward when things don’t go according to plan.

A touching and thoughtful read that made me pause, reflect, and appreciate the people who continue to show up for us through all the unexpected turns life brings. ❤️ taken in Kolkata by @theladylectiophile

I picked up The Balanced Leader expecting business lessons, but the book ended up being more about balance, self-awareness and fulfilment. 📚✨

Through Arjun’s journey as an entrepreneur, the book explores the side of leadership that we don’t always talk about — self-doubt, pressure, difficult decisions, failures and trying to keep everything together when things aren’t going as planned.

What I enjoyed was the way these lessons are brought out through the story and Arjun’s conversations with Yusuf. It didn’t feel like I was reading a typical self-help or leadership manual where someone is simply telling you what to do. The advice felt much easier to connect with because it came through the characters and their experiences.

I also really liked the key takeaways, action plans and assessments at the end of each chapter. They’re simple, but they make you pause for a moment and actually think about what you’ve just read.

One of the things that stood out to me was the idea that professional success isn’t always the same as personal fulfilment. Sometimes, while chasing the next goal, we forget to ask ourselves if we’re actually happy with where we are.

I also enjoyed the real-world inspiration woven into the book, and there’s a small reveal towards the end that genuinely caught me off guard. 👀

Overall, I found it to be a thoughtful and insightful read, especially for entrepreneurs, aspiring leaders, or anyone going through a phase of figuring things out. taken in Kolkata by @theladylectiophile

Just finished The Indomitable Peshwa: Rise of Rajrishi and WOW… this is a TOTAL GAME CHANGER!
If you're tired of the same old political stories filled with loud drama and predictable power struggles, you NEED to add this to your TBR!
The protagonist, Aurobindo Abir, is not a loud, power-hungry politician. He's calm, reflective and strategic, and I really liked how his character represents the idea of a Rajrishi — someone who can hold power while remaining grounded and disciplined.
The structure of the book is also quite unique. It unfolds through classified dossiers, internal reports, private reflections and strategic conversations, and honestly, it felt like I was reading classified documents that I probably wasn't supposed to see. 😂 It gives the story a fascinating sense of realism and makes the world of politics and governance much more immersive.
I also loved the Sanskrit and Hindi verses woven into the narrative. They add depth and beautifully connect modern political questions with Indian philosophy, dharma and our civilizational heritage.
One thing I really appreciated is how the author handles traditional philosophy. Indian fiction in English can sometimes struggle to bring philosophical ideas into a story without making them feel too academic or preachy. The author avoids that completely. The philosophy feels naturally woven into the narrative, particularly in the way the book explores patience, reflection, leadership and the long-term impact of historical decisions.
And that's probably what stayed with me the most — The Indomitable Peshwa feels deeply rooted in the idea that real power isn't always loud. Sometimes it's about patience, restraint, perspective and understanding that today's decisions can shape history long after you're gone.
It is definitely a long read and requires some patience, but I genuinely think it's worth the time. There's so much to absorb here, and it's the kind of book that makes you slow down, think about what you've read, and carry some of those ideas with you even after finishing it.

The Voice Within is a gentle collection that feels like something you read slowly rather than rush through. There’s a certain softness in Vidhi Mardia’s writing that makes the poems easy to connect with, even when they touch upon deeper emotions.
I especially enjoyed how the poems capture feelings that can sometimes be difficult to put into words. Some felt delicate and comforting, while others made me pause for a moment and sit with the thought behind them.
The collection has poems in both Hindi and English, which adds a lovely personal touch and gives the book a nice variety. The writing is simple and accessible, yet there are moments that stay in your mind even after you’ve moved on to the next poem.
It’s the kind of poetry book you can pick up on different days and perhaps find a different poem speaking to you each time. A soft, heartfelt collection that I genuinely enjoyed reading. 🤍 taken in Kolkata by @theladylectiophile

I honestly didn’t think a book about a hotel flood would make me sit and reflect on my own work life, but here we are. 🌊📖

The story follows a hotel manager dealing with a massive flood, but instead of turning into a typical dramatic disaster story, it feels surprisingly real and grounded. He isn’t portrayed as some fearless superhero—he’s scared, stressed, overwhelmed and unsure at times, but he still keeps showing up for his staff and guests. And honestly, that’s what made the story hit differently for me.

What I really loved is that the story doesn’t end when the flood is over. It also explores the messy aftermath—the rebuilding, the pressure, the losses and the emotional toll of putting everything back together. That part made the whole experience feel much more complete and believable.
The pacing is quick, the writing is simple and easy to get into, and I could easily see myself finishing this in just a couple of sittings. But despite being an uncomplicated read, it leaves you with quite a few things to think about—leadership, pressure, responsibility, resilience and how we keep going when things don’t go according to plan.

And I loved how the title gradually takes on a deeper meaning: from flooded floors to open doors—from chaos and uncertainty to rebuilding, hope and a chance to begin again.
It’s short, unpretentious and genuinely meaningful without ever feeling preachy. I actually found myself thinking about how I deal with pressure in my own work even after putting the book down.

A quick but impactful read, and the author has done a wonderful job bringing this story to life. Highly recommend! 💙

This memoir commences in innocence and culminates in wisdom hard-won.
Madhulika Syal does not obscure the arduous passages - grief that levels you, ambitions deferred, bonds that fracture. Yet she refuses to be circumscribed by them.

The narrative unfolds with the asymmetry of life itself: irregular, unforeseen, and at times, laced with humor in the most inopportune moments. Her rendering of motherhood is both unvarnished and magnanimous. You perceive the sacrifice and the benediction. You witness a woman learning to contain both within herself.

Beneath it all runs a quiet current of spirituality. It is not didactic, merely present - a faith that falters, extinguishes, and returns, tempered and more steadfast.

"Unbroken Soul" reminds us that healing is not erasure. It is the act of carrying what came before with gentler hands. taken in Kolkata by @theladylectiophile

Way to Success by Dr. Rajesh Takyar is a book that makes you look at success from a slightly different perspective. Instead of focusing only on achievements, it explores the connection between our mindset, habits, thoughts, and the way we approach our goals. I liked that the book looks at success as something that begins with understanding and working on yourself.
I enjoyed how the author brings together ideas around the subconscious mind, self-belief, goal setting, affirmations, meditation, and personal growth without making the concepts feel too complicated. The examples and explanations make the ideas easier to relate to, and there were quite a few points that made me pause and reflect on my own habits and approach to life.
What worked for me was the practical tone of the book. It doesn’t simply tell you to “think positive” or work harder; instead, it encourages you to understand your thought patterns and become more intentional about the choices you make. I also appreciated the emphasis on working smart and developing habits that can actually support long-term goals.
Some ideas may feel familiar if you already read a lot of self-help books, but I still found value in the way they were presented together. It’s the kind of book you can pick up when you need a little motivation, but also one that gives you things to reflect on after putting it down.
Overall, this was an easy, meaningful, and motivating read. I would recommend it to anyone interested in personal development, mindset, building better habits, or simply looking for a fresh perspective on what success can mean beyond just achievements. ✨ taken in Kolkata by @theladylectiophile
