📚 The Shadows that Listen
✒️ @louisacarmodybooks
🗓 18th August
💫💫💫💫💫

Thank you so much to @hachetteaus for an ARC of one of my most anticipated reads of 2026!

The Shadows that Listen is everything I missed from my earl 2010 years of reading but oh so much darker.

The Hush Hush and Angelfall girl in me was so so happy the entire duration of this book.

Amara is a human warrior working for the Angel Intelligence Agency, searching for those that do not make it home before dark. But one night her boyfriend, Jeremy, goes missing. Forgoing all common sense she ventures into the night to find him. Armed with her wits and her military training she strikes a deal with Nathaniel, The Archangel, to help him find the Fallen Angel, Cain, in return for his protection.

You hit the ground running in this book. The world is in pieces, its Angels vs Demons with human stuck in the middle... or is it?

I really enjoyed this book. I liked how we learned more of the world as Amara did. I enjoyed the banter, the high stakes and the plot. I would have liked more side character interactions and also maybe a little doing and more showing in the writing.

Arama is fierce, strong and stubborn.
Nathaniel is cool, level headed and a big smirker.
Their dynamic did not feel too forced, but you could tell they are reluctant to work together.

There is romance, its a slow slow slow burn but you can tell were it is going to go.

I cannot wait to read the next book!

Definitely pick this up if you like; Crescent City, Silver Elite, Angelfall, Angel (TV show) and Divergent!

🩷 The Sixth Faction 🩷

Dear 2010 Dystopia YA Readers,

We are home!

Whats a book you are so excited to read?

I can't believe we have gone back to our teenage years with dystopian books! And not only just dystopia but also angels and demons too! My young heart is so happy 🫶

I recently reread the original trilogy, so I am hyped as for this book!

Is it on your TBR? Have you read the Divergent series? Have you watched the movies?

🩷 Currently Reading 🩷

What are you currently reading and are you enjoying it?

I am about 20% into the eARC of Gravespell and its interesting. I have zero idea of anything to do with the world building at the moment, but the mystery aspect is definitely the driving force of this book.

Also, can someone please explain to me how we are nearly halfway through October? Every year is getting quicker and quicker, I swear!

📚 Luxluna

💫💫💫💫💫

What is the current medium you are reading?

I seem to be in an ebook phase, but that can easily change 😅

Thank you so much to Rebecca for an eARC of your book!

Luxluna is a Roman/Regency spin of the werewolves, vampires and nymphae (a new favourite of mine) all rolled into one. The world is amazing and Camm draws you in with all the vivid delights of its city. Our MCs are honestly now some of my favourites to read.
The plot is dark and trusted but in an engaging way that had me tapping the screen furiously to read faster.
I am so excited for book 2!

🩷 Long Weekends 🩷

What did you get up to this long weekend?

I had a lot of house work to do, the washing machine worked overtime and I got a few pages read.

If you are looking for a spooky read to add to your October TBR, I highly recommend The House of Saphir.

Thank you to @atriabooks for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I honestly did not think that this series could get better, but somehow it has! Elise has this amazing ability to weave intricate worlds and characters that have you hooked.

I have read previous time travel books, and they often have issues with timing or explanations of worlds but Elise never once struggled. The past and the present collide, but we see the same characters with different names!

I don't want to spoil anything, but damn that ending hurt me. It was a twist I never saw coming and secrets are spilled.

I cannot wait for book 3!

What are some of your October hopefuls?

Here are mine, some a new reads and others are rereads before I get the sequels. I started Tempest last night, few chapters in and its good so far. There is also a few eARCs on my Kobo to get through, so should be a good month.

I will also try and sneak an Alchemised reread in, because I like to hurt my soul obviously.

⚔️ The Emperors Enemy
⚔️ Harbinger
⚔️ Arcana Academy
⚔️ Rose in Chains
⚔️ The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy

🩷 Reading Wrap Up 🩷

How did your month of reading go?

I hit 100 books for the year, which is awesome and I am super proud of myself. September was hectic, October is going to be hectic-er. We are coming to the end of the year and someone told me it is 85 days till Christmas, so that's cooooool

I am hoping to finish up a few books this weekend and then start Tempest, which is a standalone and great because committing to an eight book series is not happening right now.
