The first 90 days of dating aren’t about solely seeking chemistry or certainty, they’re about pursuing wisdom.

Too often, we enter dating asking, “Is this the person I’m going to marry?”

A better question is, “Is God inviting me to continue pursuing this relationship?”

The first few months are a season of prayerful discernment, not emotional attachment.

Instead of rushing intimacy, focus on what Scripture encourages us to value:

☕ Date 1: Keep it simple. A 60–90 minute coffee or walk is enough to see if you’d like another conversation.

🚶🏽‍♀️ Dates 2–3: Do something interactive. Pay attention to how they treat others, respond to inconvenience, and carry themselves when no one’s watching.

💬 Dates 4–6: Start having meaningful conversations about faith, church, family, calling, values, and vision for marriage.

🤝 Weeks 6–8: Meet their community. Invite trusted mentors and wise counsel into the process. Healthy relationships don’t grow in isolation.

🙏 Weeks 8–12: Prayerfully discern. Is this relationship producing peace? Are you both becoming more like Christ? Do your lives point in the same direction?

Christian dating isn’t about chasing feelings… it’s about faithfully stewarding your heart while seeking God’s will.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

Date slowly.
Discern wisely.
Trust God completely.

Still in awe of what God has done 🤍

We just wrapped our very first Last Lap Foundations: Patterns of Attachment cohort.

For six weeks, singles and dating couples from our local church showed up for real conversations about dating, relationships, and how we’re wired to connect, all through a biblical lens.

Some walked in guarded.
Some walked in tired of guessing.
Everyone walked out with more clarity than they came in with.

We’re grateful for every person who leaned in and did the work not to fix anything, but to finally understand it. This is just the beginning.

Our story wasn’t linear… it was intentional. 🤍

Last night we wrapped teaching our first 6-week Attachment Patterns & Relationships course and had the opportunity to share a little of our story with the cohort. One thing I always come back to is this: I truly married my best friend and healthy marriages are like a friendship on 🔥.

X and I met 8 years before we ever had romantic interest in each other. We worked together, served in ministry together, and built a genuine friendship long before we went on our first date.

This is something we talk about often with our matchmaking and dating coaching clients: pacing.

When we’re excited about someone, it’s easy to put our foot on the gas. But by God’s design, our story was a slow burn. Over the years, I got to watch Xavier in seasons of lack and abundance, stress, and joy in the safety of community. I saw him lead publicly and love people privately. Most importantly, I watched him become a man continually transformed by the Word.

Here’s what I love about our story: the preparation was slow, but once God gave the green light, things moved fast. From our first date to our wedding day was just 11 months. The foundation had been built long before we ever called it dating.

That’s why we spend so much time helping singles understand both pacing and attachment patterns. Our wounds can often dictate how we date, but healing helps us discern instead of simply react.

Sometimes God’s timing looks like waiting. Sometimes it looks like moving quickly. Either way, His timing is always intentional.
