Recorded at Narrow Studio in Cork, mixed at Trapdoor Studio in Liverpool, UK by Tom Peters, and mastered by Stephen Kerrison.

Over these past few weeks, I’ve been sharing the songs from 15 Minutes at a Time that weren’t released as singles. This month, I want to tell you the story behind Black Wall.

It’s a song that actually started life as an acoustic piece before turning into the heavy, riff-driven anthem it is today. 🤘🏻 In this video, I’m playing it the way it was first written (it’s a rare sunny-vibe in Cork at the moment, so I had to do it for the records 🤣🌞).

This song means a lot to me because it captures what I was feeling after getting sick especially after losing the sight in my left eye for several weeks. Overnight, my whole world changed. I kept dreaming about a black wall that blocked not only my vision, but also any sense of a future. I felt trapped.

“You made me blind to show me what I couldn’t see before” is still a line I struggle to sing without getting emotional.

Those weeks changed me forever. They taught me one of the hardest lessons I’ve ever had to learn: the importance of living for today. It’s something I still catch myself forgetting from time to time.

Since I got sick 3 years ago, I have to go to the hospital twice a year to get treatment.

At first, I hated it. I was anxious every single time.

Weirdly though, over the years it’s become something completely different. It’s become a chance to slow down. To pause. To remind myself that, somehow, “nothing matters anymore and everything makes sense.”

For years I was convinced I could control everything if I just worked hard enough. Getting sick taught me the hard way that I can’t.

Learning to live 15 minutes at a time has been a gift and a challenge at same time. I I’m lucky enough to be doing really well, but it’s often when life is going well that I find myself slipping back into that familiar black hole of stress and sadness. Coming back to hospital every six months has become a reset button. It reminds me that the only thing I can really control is today. And when I am able to live like that is when i understand it’s not all on my shoulders and i need to let go. I am truly grateful for my life and for all the good and bad things happened to me.

I also want to say a huge thank you to my kids, my incredible wife @luisafumero87 and to everyone who’s supported me over the last six months, especially since music became my full-time job. It hasn’t been an easy ride, but I’ve loved every second of it and I will never thank you enough for not leaving me alone🙏. I wouldn’t go back to the old version of myself for anything.
To every band and artist who’s trusted this fuzzy Italian fella with your recordings, management, van driving and everything in between—thank you. It means more than you know. I love you all.
