to my mama; sandra frontani.

this is the twelfth year without your hugs, your laugh and your gap. i talk about you day to day at random when it comes to being up mothers in conversations. i refuse to let you be the ‘past’ because your love and lesson in me is always and very present. any opportunity where others can talk about their mothers, you will never be left out. my time with you is the most vivid and brightest moments of my memory til this day. i can recall every adventure we went on, grocery market hauls, and old laundromat days.

i hope and feel that i will never see you for your shadows and didn’t’s. your dark days. your chemo treatments. your sickness. your trauma.

but as the sun that i looked forward to greeting and seeing every single day of my life. even when you couldn’t remember my face and name at the end of your time. you are my afterschool fun time. my bestfriend. my safe space. my 70s singer. my selfless and overly caring mother.

you never held grudges so i held them for you because you spent your life time taking your shirt off your back for others who wouldn’t dare rub the medicine on your scarred surgery back. i hated your kindness and was forced to grow to understand it. you wanted to be seen and heard as much as the problems people gave you.

and ma, you were never the problem. your kindness wasn’t one either. you simply was meant to love and those around didn’t see that but you.

now, at 25, i still wish to give you back the love you endlessly poured into others and waited the day for it to come.

some would say it didn’t but between us both.
you making me was the payback you ever needed.

til this day. your love and lessons are prayers to my existence and my preachings.

thank you, mommy. 💐 by @theleeuh
