✨ Inspired by the question ‘How can music and image become one?’ the idea of the LightPiano was born. The touch of a pianist is translated into light, resulting in an audiovisual instrument for everyone to interact with.

🔸 Since its birth in 2012 the artwork grew from cardboard boxes made on my living room floor to snow, rain and wind proof light cubes custom made in a proper factory. Now this baby has a life of its own, traveling the world on various light festivals, for which we feel very grateful.

🔹 This project was the birth of the collaboration between artists @arionstagram and @markridder, the creative minds behind this project.

🔸For River Of Light 2021 we made an XL version for the first time, combining our two previous installations.

🎹 This piece was on view in November 2021 in the Mann Island Atrium in Liverpool as part of the River of Light trail.

🙏 Big thanks to @lightartcollection for making this happen with us, and the River Of Light organisation @_openculture.

🙏 Thanks to @roderikdemunck for always being there and helping us soldering the cubes.

🙏 Thanks to @berabermusic, @mirelva and @okayafrifa for comissioning us for the first time and igniting this spark!

@thelightpiano is an interactive artwork that blurs the boundaries between music and light. It consists of a piano and a spatial lighting sculpture which comes to life in a play of color and light when the keys of the piano are being touched. The audience is an important part of the artwork themselves. Everyone is invited to play, explore, and create a moment of wonder and harmony.

As artists we are inspired by the question ‘How can music and light become one?’. Usually we perceive music and light as two separate things. The LightPiano shows they are actually one. Music and light are all about frequency and vibration. They are two aspects of the same principle, which is vibration. Audible frequencies we call sound, and visible frequencies we call light and color.

Where u at? Come out and play! This is the last week we will be in Londen.

Our aspiration with this artwork is to create more harmony and human connection. The artwork is the central point, but the actual magic happens when people of the audience bring their talent and create musical moments of wonder, bringing the audience closer together.

We are here to bring more HARMONY✨
