‘Unsung’ Although the big prints at ‘Lofi’ @benoakleygallery_ will be beautifully bespoke framed in light oak, the ‘Unsung’ crew here aka @thelimitlesseditions will be sporting some IKEA off the peg frames along with the ‘Small Mercies’ to show that unassuming and affordable can still look the business. Well that’s the theory anyhow. Anybody want any Dime bars? Here is ‘Marjorie’s’ story. The crane fly, first one in !🙂❤️ ‘Marjorie’ In the final days of Marjorie’s wonderful life she indulged in the ‘gallows’ humour that had sustained her love affair with Gordon her partner for nearly 60 years. Gordon wasn’t taking the impending loss very well and Marjorie tried to reassure him that she would not be gone long because if reincarnation was an option she would try to pop back to make sure that he was ok. Gordon cheered up a little at the thought and they began discussing options if she was to return as another animal, what with the language problems. It was decided that she would wink at him as she had done across a crowded room on thousands of occasions to reassure him of her presence when he was feeling a little overwhelmed. When her time came and Marjorie passed over she was pleased to find that there was indeed a reincarnation option and raced to their office to nab the next animal that came along, whatever it might be. And so we find Marjorie the crane fly here scrambling around the house trying to attract Gordon’s attention. It wasn’t difficult because a part of coping with his grief was that he was checking any and every beast he encountered to see if that endearing wink was forthcoming. It was, and Gordon was beside himself with happiness. Of course the lifespan of a crane fly as we all know is at best 10-15 days but it was long enough to soften the blow of losing his true love, and when she didn’t turn up one morning he at least knew that there might be options when his time came to hopefully join his beloved Marjorie in the happy ever afterlife. This is ‘Marjorie’ the latest in ‘The Limitless Editions’ woodcut series, eventually to be made into a book, and probably a feature film. I’m thinking Str by @johnapedder

Blocks You may as well have a ‘butcher’s’ at the little woodblocks after the big ones received such a great reception. Comprised of re-purposed laboratory table timber, offcuts of bigger blocks, good plywood, shit plywood, and a bit of old bed I think. And all this to tell a story, to raise a smile maybe, but ultimately to satisfy a deep, lifelong obsession to create. Anyway, definitely tidying up now, no more excuses! ‘Lofi’ solo exhibition @benoakleygallery_ Coming to @benoakleygallery_ from 9th-26th April at their wonderful new gaff in East Dulwich is my solo exhibition entitled ‘Lofi’. More details will be drip fed as we come up with some meaning to all of this but suffice to say no AI content will be on display during this period and knowing Ben any period at the gallery. @rayrichardson1 will be the first to show beginning on 12 March if you’re in the neighbourhood . ‘Clement’ After yesterday’s tear up of ‘Clement’ I thought that you like to see him in his pomp. Actually I think there’s a framed one on the wall at the wonderful @gravelpit_shop @leahsyard . If you’re interested tell Danny I said I’d knock 20% because I’m bringing some more stuff in. Here’s ‘Clement’s story as told in the ‘Unsung’ series aka @thelimitlesseditions 🙂🙏🌈⭐️ ‘Clement’ The term ‘Busman’s Holiday’ could have been invented just for Clement here. A part of his day job as a highways surveyor involves him making those little fluorescent marks on roads and pavements to denote where cables might be laid. They always look so beautifully unselfconscious to me, and for Clement’s marks the same is indeed the case in his day job. However, on his evenings and weekends he paints his own language ironically perfectly disguised in hi vis jacket on small forgotten roads on industrial estates. He stays away from any surveying areas and draws his beautiful fictional hieroglyphics anonymously, and humbly shows them to the world without anybody realizing it. But Clement knows, and that’s all that matters. By day job a surveyor, by weekend an anonymous and brilliant graffiti artist! 🌈 #woodcut #printmaking #artbrut #primitiveart by @johnapedder

‘Glimpses’ During the Christmas break I was the unofficial guide when a few people asked to see my studio during a party at the house. Because I was amongst friends and had had a few, I kinda warmed to my new role, so much so that when I was explaining the idea of these ‘glimpses’ I grabbed a print and proceeded to tear it up, which drew audible gasps. It’s true! I have to say I got a little carried away and began handing out the ‘glimpses’ to the gathering whether they wanted one or not! ‘Clement‘ here from @thelimitlesseditions is still the best by far when chopped up!🙂👏🌈🌈 #printmaking #print #blockprint by @johnapedder

‘Merch’ Had a flurry of these ‘Lester The Wolf’ tee shirt orders over the last month and although I’ve handed over manufacturing to the good people @printedbyus their handprinted silkscreen printed tees are a darn sight more professional than I can muster in decent amounts. I love tee shirts. Since my teens I’ve rifled through tens of thousands of racks of them in countless vintage shops around the world to find just the right one to project my personality by displaying allegiances to bands, brands, teams, cities, films, artists and political causes. I’ve obsessed over neckline, sleeve length, body fit, cotton weight, glorious wear and tear, and I’ve dreamt of how I would create my own brand one day given half a chance and not just because everybody needs a bit of ‘merch’. This reel is an illustration of the main obstacle I’ve placed in front of myself, which is the fact that that as a woodcut printmaker I can create them myself. But there comes a time when you have to delegate, to find a partner who will have the right ethos, be doing things for the right reasons including making it ethical and sustainable and in this case for the great cause of supporting people in Sheffield who have experienced homelessness under the wonderful umbrella of @archerproject . ‘Lester’ is also a contender for the second enlarged version of this @thelimitlesseditions gang after ‘Clement’, so he joins the list of ‘ducks’, or in this case ‘wolves’ being lined up for 2026. ‘Studio’ The only reason that you can’t tell that I’m in the throes of an end of year tidy is that I’m doing it from the drawers out as evidenced by the disparate collection of @printers_block s and @thelimitlesseditions splayed out on the clutter free press. If I settle now it will be fatal so I must stay strong, although spaces on surfaces are beginning to emerge for potential head turning mucking about. One of Many is Back! As you can see it’s not my place to set the printmaking bar for this or any ‘1/ Many’ outings. The latest edition is in full flow over on @oneofmanycharity and I’ll be posting my own offering after the weekend aiming to do what this project/movement/ charity has done since 2018 to help fund the smaller charities who seem to get lost in this increasingly fractious world. So as usual, make something, anything, offer it up on your account for free on the understanding that when the lucky recipient receives your generous offering they decide how much they would have paid for it and donate that or an amount they can afford to a good cause of their choosing. Anybody can take part, no qualifications are necessary, no fees are asked, no vetting committee long or shortlisting anybody. The mail out is so loosely Dec 12th that artists are quite rightly completely ignoring it as we speak so get over there and throw a few requests around. Remember to add @oneofmanycharity as a collaborator if you want to feature as an artist. Drypoint. I have so much to learn but here is my first drypoint in all its novice charm, with its too dark background and it too pale figures. @thelimitlesseditions This is kind of a plug for the latest ‘Lester The Wolf‘ tee shirts as he is the leader of this band of unsung friends, but he gets such a lot of attention so I’m going to give you Andrea’s story today who is the final one of these reveals. Also a new one on the way called ‘A Big Dog Named Sparrow’, and a book when I have enough, called ‘Unsung’. Take it away ‘Andrea’! ‘Andrea’s day off work’ Andrea took a day off work. At 9am she visited her local park to feed the ducks so she clearly isn’t a park keeper. She then went to the museum to look at their fossil collection, so she doesn’t work in a museum. She also doesn’t work in a cafe as she had coffee and cake in her favourite one. After taking some books back to the library (not a librarian) she spent a lovely afternoon at the local cinema.. look we could go on like this forever but my speciality is short storytelling with no discernible punchline. Oh and her choice of outfit offers no clues as it’s her ‘day off work’ outfit.
