Premiering two documentaries at @indiememphis isn’t something I ever thought I’d do. Not because I couldn’t, but being a filmmaker wasn’t something little me thought about. I loved animals growing up and was convinced I’d be a vet. Then got introduced to music photography from watching Warped Roadies on MTV and that’s where my love of storytelling through photos came from. Ended up getting a music business degree from @uofmscheidt (which has now been named one of Billboard’s Top Global Music Business School 😭😭 insaannee) which led to my discovery of videography and editing which THEN led to what my life is now. The rest is a longer story for another time.

Tickets now live at the link in my bio. Come say hi and support local talent. Lotta great films being played by an amazing group of folks.

In this intimate conversation, Marcella Simien joins us in discussing her transformative journey of delving into her family roots while overcoming a decade-long battle with an autoimmune disease and ADHD. After embracing a holistic lifestyle, she has channeled her experiences into her new album, "To Bend To The Will Of A Dream That's Being Fulfilled", that explores new levels of artistry, love and life, ultimately redefining who she is. With unseen footage from her Off the Walls Arts show, you’ll be able to understand her a little bit better and appreciate her and her art in a new way.

@imakemadbeats , a Memphis native and CEO/Founder of @weareunapologetic , grew up immersed in the city’s unmistakable sonic identity. Despite that, he felt disconnected from the creative paths it nurtured. Seeking a space where his musical wizardry could thrive, he ventured beyond his hometown, eventually landing at Manhattan’s legendary Quad Studios, where he became a sought-after ghost producer, crafting sonic spells for some of hip-hop’s elite while also finding a niche in scoring for film and television. His compositions would go on to be featured by major companies like NBC, ABC, HBO, DC Shoes, Oxygen and more. Guided by the belief that music could speak without words—a philosophy later embodied in his debut instrumental EP, Better Left Unsaid—he further conjured the IMAKEMADBEATS p by @thelizbot

During my time at @uofmccfa I worked with some amazing folks and was able to bring a few of my favorite stories to life. Happy to announce that both of the short music documentaries that I completed while at the @uofmemphis have been accepted into the @indiememphis film festival this year! Telling stories of local talent here in Memphis is something I won’t ever stop doing. I have about 6 more similar stories (among a few other things) to tell once I stop being insanely busy with school and have the capacity to edit them. Extremely grateful for the opportunity to share my work with everyone in a greater capacity 🥹🥹

Both films will play on Nov. 7 at the Halloran Center starting at 11:15am.

1) Behind the Mask - a documentary about @imakemadbeats

This story dives into his beginnings and what the mask really means to him as a person and artist. There are things we do as artists to hide ourselves and IMAKEMADBEATS is no stranger to that. If you only know him as one entity, then be prepared to hear a new aspect of his life that perhaps you haven’t heard before.

2) To Bend To the Will of a Dream That’s Being Fulfilled - a documentary about @marcella.simien @marcellasimienmusic

I asked Marcella about doing this for my school project back in 2024 and at the time, unbeknownst to me, she was also releasing a new album. After talking, we decided to lean into that aspect and she opens up about struggles she faced growing up and how she’s come to rely on holistic healing and those who came before her. With unseen footage from her @offthewallsarts show, you’ll be able to understand her a little bit better and appreciate her and her art in a new way.

Much love to you both for trusting me with your lives and stories and honored to know you 💛

Tickets go on sale Monday! by @thelizbot

My first introduction to @imakemadbeats was back in pre-pandemic times. I shot some photos for AWFM’s The Red Show because I was getting to photography back then and wanted to gain more experience in the music scene. Downloaded the UNAPOLOGETIC. World app and sent a message asking if I could come through, and was told yes.

Fast forward, and I ran into him again at MEM’s Tambourine Bash and then yet again at a Music Biz conference. Each time, we barely spoke. Short greetings and your typical “how are you” convos cause as an introvert, I avoid deep conversations like the plague.

Perhaps running into him so many times in a short span of time could’ve been seen as a sign, but I didn’t listen to myself or what the universe was telling me. Wasn’t completely ready to get out of my comfort zone. That was in 2018/2019 if I’m not mistaken.

Now in 2026, I can say that it’s okay to jump sometimes. Cause that fall is probably only 2 feet deep instead of 10 😅 by @thelizbot

If a stranger asked you to document their day, would you do it?

I would. Guess that’s why I’m here.

Caught an exclusive interview w/ @awfmemphis after his label @weareunapologetic and team of collaborators including @imakemadbeats @officialkidmaestro @cmajorslodown have spoken out against his rebelliousness and tendency to just do random shit without permission. He says, and I quote, “I’m not that bad.” 💀💀💀

Come find out if his label has reason to feel blindsided by his antics this Saturday 8/01 in the @theideadistrictmemphis at @cxffeeblack as he performs NEW MUSIC off of his upcoming album “Recessionary Indicator” by @thelizbot

As someone who's been and worked in the creative industry for almost 10 years now, sound is the one thing that you can never escape. When it's bad, everyone notices. On this week's episode of "The Weird Hour" on @wyxr_memphis, one of the things that @officialkidmaestro and @imakemadbeats of @weareunapologetic talked about is the role that sound plays at live events and the importance of sound to producers. Shout out to all the venues that prioritize sonics and ensure artists and audiences have great experiences! Tag your favorite Memphis venue below 🤗 by @thelizbot

@officialkidmaestro never knows what time of day it is, but that doesn’t stop him from giving us great performances. @midnightmaraudershow is what it is due to him, @imjust_uniq and the collectives known as @cxffeeblack and @weareunapologetic (AKA @theideadistrictmemphis )

If you need shit to do on a random ass Saturday in Memphis (🙃) come to @theideadistrictmemphis and get some stellar coffee, and hear Memphis music at the source.

Love yall 🥰 by @thelizbot
