new substack! this one has been a long time coming. in december i went to nyc and interviewed people, asking everyone, ā€œwhat makes you feel most human?ā€ in the essay i talk about their experiences and share their responses, and i even recorded a special voice over so you can have a full ~auditory experience~ with a few sound effects thrown in. you can listen next time you go for a drive or a walk. link in bio!

love,
liz

here are some messy thoughts on how to retain our humanity whilst fighting the urge to be robots. thank you to all the folks in nyc who let me interview them while i was shaking in my boots! let me know what activities or practices make you feel most human :) for me it’s going on long walks in cities, reading a poem that makes me go ā€œmhm,ā€ and connecting with people i meet traveling.

my full thoughts are on substack, and the full video is on my youtube channel (links in bio) !

bittersweet poem from today. my grandparents always loved to do puzzles together, and now my grandmother does them by herself after dinner. she said, ā€œi don’t let myself do it until after supper; otherwise, i wouldn’t get anything else done around here.ā€

in june of this year i started living leaseless, and i wanted to capture my beloved space in nashville before i moved all my things out šŸ’” these excerpts are from my latest substack essay if you’d like to read the full thing.

sooo, what does living leaseless mean? why am i doing it? truth be told i was feeling a little stuck in my life in nashville, and i wanted to travel and write and meet interesting people and maybe make this travel writer dream happen! so i’ll be hopping around this year, volunteering or working odd jobs or going wherever i have a place to stay (if you know of any cool seasonal work or writing fellowships/residencies, lmk!!) but nashville is still my home base and will be for the foreseeable future. right now, i’m working at a farm in the netherlands, and next month i’m off to backpack hike the tour de mont blanc. aaaand ill be back in nashville in september because cool things are happening with @loosethread_litmag and @heybearband and maybe my own music šŸ‘€

i’m bad about posting on here, but i’ll try to share more photos / vlogs / i post once a month on my substack, so follow along there! ok that’s all for now. if you’ve made it this far, comment something good that happened to you this week!

Dramatic photo of me to announce that… 🄁 🄁 🄁 I (along with the wonderfully talented @lauren_campbell02 and @_kendall.michelle) recently launched Loose Thread Literary Magazine, a Nashville-based literary journal.

Lauren, Kendall, and I were all English majors at Belmont, and every week after our senior capstone class we would get lunch and discuss T. S. Eliot’s ā€œThe Four Quartetsā€ and whatever else we were reading at the time, often launching into conversations about the importance of the humanities and how certain pieces of writing can—and have—changed our lives. We all shared similar worldviews and loved the same kinds of stories about hope and redemption, so we toyed around with the idea of starting a lit mag… and here it is!!!

In the craziness of the current moment we want to read pieces that give us hope and remind us of our shared humanity. Send us your best poetry, short stories, or essays by April 1 to have a chance at being featured in our first issue. (See our Substack for full submission guidelines.) All submissions are anonymous upon review. We would love to read your work!

2024! What a fun year you’ve been! Let’s recap this year’s musical highlights:

1. I played some shows with @the.scarecrows.band and we wrote some fun really special songs together.
2. Joined my school’s fiddle ensemble as a newbie violinist and stretched myself a lot as a player. Wrote and performed strings on two tracks that are set to release this year. Here’s to doing things you’re scared of and mediocre at!
3. Wrote some bangers with @jaan.harrison.kohm and @laurynmmusic, several of which turned into a sync EP that released in November.
4. I recorded my debut EP ā€œHoneymoon Phaseā€ which released November 8th. Woo hoo! Had a lot of fun running around in a thrifted wedding dress.
5. My self-published poetry chapbook was distributed on June 30th. This had been a dream of mine for over a year and I’m so glad it came to life! (I still have copies left — I can mail one to you if you live in the UK or US!)
6. Moved to Bournemouth, England in September and played my first ever full-band show the night of my EP release.
7. Played several shows in Bournemouth that made me realize how much I love playing music live. People here are so hungry for live music and are so attentive. Living in Nashville sometimes desensitizes me from how special and rare hearing good live music is, and moving away has made me extra grateful for the gift that it is.

2025 has a lot of unknowns. I’m not sure what type of work I’ll be doing after May or even what country I’ll be living in, but I’ll still be here making music :)

Much love! Thanks for listening.

My debut EP, ā€œHoneymoon Phase,ā€ is out November 8th.

This is my favorite project I’ve made and the first collection of songs that really feel like me and represent the type of music I want to make. I’m so excited for it to be out in the world after almost a year of gradually recording these songs with @laurynmmusic.

You can presave it now in my bio! Woo hoo!

Pictures by the lovely @rweberphotomusic.

Thanks for tuning in and listening, y’all. Much love to you.
