Thelma’s Kitchen is entering a new chapter. ❤️

Effective today, September 2, Thelma’s Kitchen’s café and catering services are temporarily closed as we take time to thoughtfully consider what comes next.

While our doors may be closed for a season, our commitment to feeding our neighbors continues. Reconciliation Services will continue providing meals to our clients throughout this transition, just as we have served our community for nearly 40 years.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has shared a meal with us, ordered catering, volunteered, worked alongside us, or otherwise been part of the Thelma’s Kitchen community. What makes Thelma’s special has always been about so much more than food — it’s about the people gathered around the table.

This isn’t goodbye. We’re taking time to reflect, listen and imagine what the next chapter of Thelma’s Kitchen can be, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. ❤️

400 meals — and 400 reminders that Thelma’s Kitchen is still hard at work. ❤️🥪

While our café is temporarily closed to the walk-in lunch crowd, our mission to nourish our neighbors hasn’t stopped. Throughout September, our team and REVEAL Works cohort prepared 400 to-go meals for neighbors visiting Reconciliation Services for case management, case support and therapy.

And there’s plenty more happening behind the scenes! Our REVEAL Works cohort continues to learn and grow each day, and we’re welcoming corporate and community groups for tours and opening our space for meeting and event rentals.

Thelma’s may look a little different right now, but there’s still a whole lot happening inside these walls. 💙 by @thelmaskitchenkc

Good food should never go to waste — especially when it can help feed our neighbors. ❤️

Recently, we donated food from Thelma’s Kitchen to the Redemptorist Center, a trusted community partner serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity through its food pantry and mobile distributions.

Community care means sharing what we have and working together to make it go further. We’re grateful for partners like the Redemptorist Center who help ensure food and essential resources reach neighbors who need them most.

Because taking care of our community is a team effort. 💙 by @thelmaskitchenkc

More than 100 of you have spoken, and we listened.

Over the past month, many of you have taken the time to tell us what you love about Thelma’s Kitchen, what you hope to see in its next chapter, and what you think we should consider as we reimagine the future.

And one thing is very clear: this community cares deeply about Thelma’s. (The feeling is mutual, btw.)

Swipe through to see some of what we've heard so far. And know that we're not done listening.

If you haven't shared your thoughts yet, we'd still love to hear from you! Take our brief survey at the link in our bio. by @thelmaskitchenkc

The café may be taking a pause, but Thelma’s Kitchen is still plenty busy!

Our team has been jumping in with gloves on to help prepare fresh lunches for our neighbors receiving services at @reconciliationservices. Sandwiches are being stacked, lunches are being packed, and meals are still making their way into the hands of neighbors who need them 💛

Because even in this season of transition, one thing hasn’t changed: feeding our community with care and connection. by @thelmaskitchenkc

Last week, our Foster Grandparents hit the road! 🚌💙

We loaded up two charter buses, picked up our FGP neighbors from KCK, and headed to Topeka for a special gathering bringing together three Foster Grandparent programs from across the region.

The day was packed with learning, laughter, and connection — from Midwest weather presentations by KSNT meteorologists and other guest speakers, to games, dancing, Dickey’s Barbecue, and plenty of time to connect with fellow seniors committed to serving the next generation.

And we couldn’t send our Foster Grandparents on a road trip without making sure they were well-fed! Our @thelmaskitchenkc team prepared delicious snacks and boxed lunches for the trip — and let’s just say, they were the envy of our FGP neighbors at the gathering. 😉🥪

Our Topeka FGP friends even provided notebooks and pens so Foster Grandparents could exchange contact information and keep those new friendships going long after the day ended. ❤️

We wrapped up the gathering with words from Andy Ewing, Executive Director of the Kansas Volunteer Commission.

We’re so grateful for opportunities like this to learn from one another, build community, and celebrate the incredible Foster Grandparents making a difference for young people across our region! by @thelmaskitchenkc

🎓 Congratulations to REVEAL Works Cohort Two graduates Duron and Gregory!

We recently celebrated this milestone together over a meal at @jackstackbbq — reflecting on the past several months, celebrating how far they’ve come, and sending them into their next chapters with plenty of well wishes.

“From May to September, we’ve had the privilege of watching Gregory and Duron grow, mature, and step into leadership through REVEAL Works,” said Director of Program Operations Kristina Griffin. “Gregory and Duron, you are officially part of REVEAL Works history as Cohort Two. We are so proud of you!”

Please join us in celebrating Duron and Gregory and all they’ve accomplished! 👏🎉 by @thelmaskitchenkc

Even though our café isn’t currently open to the public, we’re still serving dozens of free meals to our clients every single day. ❤️

We know how important a nutritious, filling meal can be for the neighbors who walk through our doors for case management, therapy and other services. And as we imagine what’s next for Thelma’s Kitchen, we’re as committed as ever to continuing this essential part of our mission.

You can help us keep feeding our community. Consider making a gift today to provide meals for neighbors experiencing hunger at RS3101.org/donate.

And as we look toward Thelma’s Kitchen’s next chapter, we want to hear from you! Take our brief survey at the link in our bio and tell us what you’d like to see in the future of Thelma’s Kitchen. ❤️ by @thelmaskitchenkc

We wanted to say a huge thank you for the outpouring of support we’ve received since sharing our big announcement last week.❤️
