A long overdue story time.

Whether you’ve known me since we opened years ago, just discovered us, or have known me my whole life, this is a story I’ve never really shared out in the open like this.

I’ve been at peace with this part of my story for a long time. I’m not sharing it because there’s something I still need to work through. I’m sharing it because I want to give my dad his flowers while he’s still here to receive them.

For a long time, something I carried as shame when I was a child eventually became something I understood as sacrifice when I became a man.

And I can’t think of a better way to honor my dad than to finally tell that story. by @thelocaldonut

I found my new favorite spot for cheat day @thelocaldonut they are a local favorite out here in Scottsdale AZ and on some mornings the line can be really long, I can see why

I recommend getting a dozen of their fancy donuts and sweet pastries, they have a bunch of fun flavor to choose from and the hardest part is trying to figure out how to eat them all taken in The Local Donut by @thelocaldonut

KINAKO OATMILK LATTE!! WHAT!?! 🤯

We’re always looking for inspiration for new donut flavors. Sometimes the inspiration is easy to find. The challenge is figuring out how to translate those flavors into a donut and, more importantly, finding the right donut type to bring them to life.

This beautiful drink comes to you from KaDa Vietnamese Coffee in Gilbert!

If you’re unfamiliar with kinako, it’s a Japanese roasted soybean flour with a wonderfully nutty, toasted flavor, almost reminiscent of peanut butter, with a subtle natural sweetness. Pair that with the bold, slightly bitter notes of espresso and the creamy, mellow sweetness of oat milk, and you’ve got a beautiful balance of flavors. Earthy, nutty, rich, and comforting.

And before we even think about bringing this idea to the baker’s table, we’re going to take our time and enjoy this latte for what it already is. Something pretty darn special.

Not everything we taste needs to become a donut. Sometimes we just want to appreciate what someone else has created.

BUT… if our intuition is right, a mochi donut might just be the perfect vessel for this one. 👀

I stumbled upon this local donut shop in Scottsdale Arizona and I love how it’s called @thelocaldonut

Early mornings are the best time to come here when everything’s fresh and available cuz they sell out fast

Not only is this a local gem but it’s also Cambodian owned which made the trip worth it even more for me since I love supporting the Khmer community

Bake N Take is coming up on October 25th!

There’s a design contest happening for the event, and we figured we’d share a little work in progress to build some excitement.

And, if we’re being honest, maybe sharing it before it’s finished will give us the motivation (and pressure) to actually finish it. 😂

Sometimes you just gotta put your work out there and see where it takes you.

We needed to shoot a little promo for our October fall flavors, so we figured we’d do it over breakfast. 🍩🍂

Somewhere along the way, our breakfast spot became part of the video—and honestly, it was the perfect backdrop.

Berdena’s holds a special place in our hearts. They were one of the main places that supported us when we first started years ago, and we’ve never forgotten that.

They also happen to have one of the best avocado toasts—with an egg, of course—around these parts. 😂

We’re grateful for this space, the people behind it, and all the memories tied to it. It’s been really cool watching how far Jonathan has taken @berdenas and seeing it continue to grow into something so beautiful.

This is an old sketch of mine.

We’ve used AI-generated art before—for marketing, ideas, and even a few stickers. We haven’t used it for either in a while, but we also never went back and deleted those posts from our page or tried to hide that we used it.

They’re part of the process too.

And maybe that’s why we wanted to share this old Procreate timelapse.

I love sitting and sketching people in public. It’s a good warm-up to get my hands loose and build confidence. You have to work fast, though. Looking at a stranger for more than half a second starts creating some awkward vibes. 😂

Did this sketch ever get the love or attention I thought it deserved? Not really. But that was never really the point.

A lot of the “process” we share—whether it’s drawing, making donuts, experimenting with food, or something completely random—was never created just to get likes, go viral, or get attention.

Of course we love when something connects with people.

But we genuinely enjoy the process.

We enjoy having an idea in our heads and figuring out how to bring it to life.

Maybe that’s part of what attracted us to generative AI in the first place. We had so many ideas, and suddenly there was a way to see some of them come to life faster.

But faster and easier doesn’t always mean more meaningful.

There’s something different about sitting down, drawing a line, erasing it, trying again, and slowly watching something become what you imagined.

We’ll make another post soon showing some of the artwork around the shop—what’s original, what’s a print or reproduction, and what was made with AI. Just for kicks, but also for transparency.

And if some of the AI-generated work we’ve used turned you off or made you decide you couldn’t support us, we understand. We made the choice to use it, and we have to own that choice.

For everyone who has supported the art, the donuts, the weird ideas, the experiments, and the process regardless—

thank you.

We’re still creating.
Still learning.
Still making things.
