Amsterdam is a city that works for every kind of traveler - historians, museum goers, early birds, nightowls, people who like their days packed to the gills and those who just want to wander. But finding the Amsterdam you're looking for means the right hotel is key. Want to be in the middle of it all, with canal-side cafés, Nine Streets boutiques, and a bar where locals actually hang out? That’s Rosewood Amsterdam. Prefer quiet mornings, a walled garden, and centuries of history around every corner? That’s Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. We have details on who each is right for, today on the blog - head to stories for more. #wemaketravelbetter taken in Amsterdam, the Netherlands by @thelocalforeigner

September is the time of year when things seem to go into fast forward, but the Local Foreigner team hit the supersize button this month as well. It helps that early fall is a perfect time to go pretty much anywhere, and our advisors took that as an invitation to go pretty much *everywhere* - from wasabi tasting in Japan to leopard tracking in South Africa to dancing cumbia in Colombia to last lazy beach days in Greece, Spain, France, and Italy, it was a September to remember, and all the feedback on hotels, restaurants, guides, experiences, and recommendations is already saved to our system for everyone’s reference. As always, this monthly reel is a peek into how we’re making travel better, one trip at a time. #wemaketravelbetter by @thelocalforeigner

"One of the most common misconceptions is that Los Cabos is simply a beach destination for celebration or spring break... the destination is so much more than that." We sat down with Nicolas Cejas, the new General Manager of @oneandonlypalmilla, to talk about the Los Cabos most visitors miss. He told us about snorkeling with turtles in Palmilla Bay, a day trip by boat to the 20,000-year-old coral reef at Cabo Pulmo, his favorite hidden fountain on property, and why the Agua terrace at sunset captures the spirit of the place - head to stories and link in bio for our newest edition of Industry Insider. #wemaketravelbetter taken in One&Only Palmilla by @thelocalforeigner

Being conversant in the hotels of Anguilla and St Barth’s is a must for any Local Foreigner, and over the summer, seven members of our New York-based Private Client team did a sweep through this slice of paradise to brush up on the latest intel. Yes, they each came home with their personal favorites, but even more importantly, they came back equipped with opinions on which island is right for which type of traveler, where to stay when you’re traveling with kids - or when you’re trying to avoid them - and how to make your beach getaway pack the most punch (whether it’s spiked with rum or not.) Sometimes, to make sure you’re up to date, you just have to get your feet wet. #wemaketravelbetter by @thelocalforeigner

Antarctica represents the final frontier for many travelers, and if you're going to make the physical and symbolic journey to the ends of the earth, the most epic way to do it is with White Desert. The White Continent is not a monolith - the experience and the landscape changes from week to week, and varies across its vast expanse. Fly down in late November and you'll catch Emperor penguin chicks taking their first wobbly steps at Atka Bay, and by December the colony is its loudest, at 12,000 strong. In January, the story shifts to the ethereal dance of ice and water, when fleeting turquoise meltwater channels called the Blue Rivers appear, visible for only a few weeks. White Desert's three camps are united in their remoteness, but offer different experiences: the geodesic domes of Whichaway opened in 2005 on a rare ice-free oasis, and the spirit of early polar exploration lives on at Explorer Camp, with its six heated tents and sweeping ice-field views. Echo Base is the otherworldly one: glass pods on a glacier, with a sauna and wellness dome - taken all together, it's what we imagine a camp on Mars might be like. What's that you say? You only have a weekend to make it to your seventh continent? They also do a day trip by private jet. People are always asking us what the coolest thing you can do in the whole world is, and this just might be it. #wemaketravelbetter by @thelocalforeigner

Yes, it feels like Greece is having a moment - but when is Greece not having a moment? As the season draws to a close on the Island of the Winds, we're already looking ahead to next summer, with the help of this summer's scouting feedback. @louisavanntravel, who calls herself one of Belevedere Hotel Mykonos's biggest fans, has up-to-date intel for us, returning to the hotel in back-to-back summers for her time on the Aegean's best island to see and be seen (or sea and be scene, if you will.) But what we especially love here are the specifics - when we say we track feedback, we don't just mean letter grades. We report on room numbers, butler names, seasonal specials, linen brands, car makes and models, staff uniforms - you name it, accessible to our whole team, for every property we've ever visited. #wemaketravelbetter taken in Mykonos, Greece by @thelocalforeigner

Often overshadowed by Spain's more dramatic cities and wider Europe's heavy-hitters like Paris and Rome, Madrid isn't the flashiest destination on your itinerary. But those who do find their way here know it’s special - few places boast an artistic pedigree as pure as Madrid’s, and its culinary scene, ripe with both fresh talent and deep tradition, is reason enough to visit. What makes it extra special, however, are its nights, whether the late summer sunsets or the after-dark hours, which lure tides of people into its barrios, where merry crowds congregate till dawn. It's one of our very favorite cities, and today on the blog, we're breaking down how to see the Spanish capital, Local Foreigner style. Any serious skier will tell you the trip is only as good as the location of the hotel you're basing it from - the right one makes the whole day easier before you've even taken your first run. Ski-in, ski-out access means your skis and poles are waiting at the door, the mountain is *right* there, and the only real decision left is which direction to point your tips. Swipe through for some of our favorite hotels that have us ready to shred; then, head to stories and the link in bio for full details. #wemaketravelbetter by @thelocalforeigner

With the August opening of Amanvari, Aman has landed in Cabo, but not in the corridor you may be picturing. North of the marinas and the nightlife of Cabo San Lucas, there's a stretch of the Baja Peninsula where the desert meets the Sea of Cortez, and long, sandy beaches melt into the water. Here, the brand's signature restraint is honed to perfection, with just 18 casitas built to disappear into the landscape. Stone walls cast long shadows across the surrounding terrain, a mirage on a stretch of coastline that feels worlds away from anything. Swipe through to take a look around. #wemaketravelbetter taken in Amanvari by @thelocalforeigner

August was a hot one, and the Local Foreigner team was in, on, and by the water for most of the month - enjoying Maine’s sounds, narrows, and ponds, Sardinia’s bays, New Hampshire’s lakes, the Gulf of Finland, canals in the Netherlands, rivers in Paris, London, Peru, and New Mexico, and beaches in France, the Cayman Islands, Italy, California, Mexico, Portugal, Hawaii, Iceland, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Spain - and we’re floating on that summer feeling right into September. Want to squeeze in one more getaway before the fall, or ready to get next year’s summer travel centerpiece on the calendar now? All our feedback is already in our system, so whether you’re wondering what room in Versailles has the best wallpaper, which beaches in Montecito are dog friendly, or where in Scotland you have the best chance of running into the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment on horseback, we have intel for you. As always, this monthly reel is a peek into how we’re making travel better, one trip at a time. #wemaketravelbetter by @thelocalforeigner
