I think of “Look Up” as a gentle call to have hope, a reminder that there are still pure and beautiful things to be enjoyed in life and that we can savor the joys of each momentary pleasure. I sort of adopted gently saying it to myself when l’d find myself drifting into spaces or feelings of despair. I’m glad I choose to look up because it’s often led me to the most beautiful parts of my day, which is not necessarily what I see when I do look up...but that I get to tell you to LOOK UP…🫶🏽✨ #LookUp #DontGiveUp #KeepHopeAlive by @thelookup.foundation

Connected with a couple friends this weekend and got to chatting about “how many people have you had your last conversation with?”. It’s a question I’ve been sitting with and it really hits hard because the truth is, we never really know. What came out of our conversation was a deep reflection on what it means to truly show up for people while we still can. Here’s a bit of what I took away from hearing my friend’s perspectives:

1. Be present, enjoy it - Not just physically there but emotionally, mentally. Put down the phone. Make eye contact. Listen like it matters because it does.

2. Define the friendship - Clarity creates safety. When people know what they mean to you, they feel seen. Don’t let your most meaningful connections stay undefined.

3. Reach out to people but don’t become tied to a desired outcome- Check in, even if they don’t respond how you hoped. You’re not doing it for a reply, you’re doing it to let them know they’re not alone.

4. Love without expecting anything in return- Sometimes love looks like showing up without needing to be noticed, thanked, or understood. Give it freely. Not because they deserve it but because it’s who you are.

5. Don’t allow fear or shame to keep you from reaching out- That “what if it’s weird” or “they probably don’t care” voice? Quiet it. People remember who reached out, especially when they needed it most.

6. Don’t assume that tomorrow is promised- We’re all just passing through. Say the thing. Send the message. Make the call. Don’t let love go unsaid.

Showing up won’t always feel like a big deal but to someone, it might be everything. 💚

Sometimes, life feels heavier than we know how to carry. Then, out of nowhere, we find a soft place to land, a kind conversation, a quiet moment, a laugh that breaks through the fog.
