How I celebrated 10 years in business ...

I've committed one-fourth of my life to building @commacopywriters (10/40 years!) I planned for years to celebrate a decade of entrepreneurship n a big way and ✨Comma's Decade Gala ✨ was a DREAM. I will never forget the love and support in the room. I could barely contain my JOY.

Thank you to @megnificent_t for bringing the vision to life. Our theme? Once Upon a Story, with an emphasis on stories, chapters, and seeing your own possibilities. My kids were part of the program and I would relive this night a thousand times.

Thank you to @chiefgirlsgirl from @utwomenlead and Jeff Durham from @gimmebeauty for sharing such beautiful messages. And to @jaofutah for allowing us to be in your inspiring Biz Town.

When I think back over the decade of entrepreneurship, it's been so much work, hard-earned lessons, and expensive mistakes along the way. But also, so many moments of fulfillment and euphoric victory with my team. We've built the life-first way, and I'm really proud of that.

We grow through facing our fears and stretching our comfort bubbles. And in my presentation, I shared we all have future chapters ahead. We are each the authors of our own life story.

Building a business is not a solo sport. I was weepy for weeks leading up to this event, realizing how many hundreds of people have supported me and Comma Copywriters.

This Reel makes me cry. Tears are streaming down my cheeks as I share this, in deep gratitude to live and work in ways that are aligned with my soul.

I am grateful to enjoy recognition from adults. To own an award-winning company is exciting. I am proud of @commacopywriters. 🏅

But to have my 5-year-old see I am there for him: THIS means more to me than any award. It's priceless. (For the record: I have owned two companies his entire life. I work part-time on purpose and make daily efforts to prioritize my kids. He sees my work as something I do for fun, not a job.)

✨️✨️ LIFE-FIRST WORK MATTERS. ✨️✨️

This is what @themamaladder is all about: Living your passions AND being there for those you love most. BOTH babies and business are absolutely possible. And you can thrive in both areas.

Announcement from my front door! Crystalee here, owner of @commacopywriters. Counted up today: I've awarded our team nearly $50K for our team for quarterly On-Time Bonuses since I launched the program in 2020!

They say you can use "carrots" to motivate or "sticks" to punish your team. (Which is a little messed up, comparing humans to animals, but I understand the psychology.)

I choose to incentivize my team. And it pays off.

October theme: CHASING GHOULS 🎃 (GOALS!)

If you are building a business, you likely have growth goals. This month I will share about chasing goals as a mom + business owner.

We'll talk about perfectionism, fear, self-sabotage, mom guilt, money roadblocks, and how to show up for BOTH your company & kids while chasing your goals.

As for me, with 10 years of babies + business, they sometimes blend so much, they feel like an extension of each other.

Like this 🇺🇸 BOOKED ACROSS AMERICA reading challenge.

It was designed for my business team, but I included my kids. I wanted to challenge all of us for the 250th year of the United States.

I want them to experience the Goal Cycle:

Chase a big goal ➡️ Measure progress ➡️
Reach the goal ➡️ Celebrate 🎉 ➡️ Set a new goal

My four-year-old listened to 50 books from 50 states. Tonight he kept saying: "I'M SO PROUD OF MYSELF." I took him to the Lego store for a prize.

We all deserve that feeling.

I am writing the book I wish I had in 2016 when I started a business. Writing it for YOU, the ambitious mom who wants to make good money while being a great mom.

Ten years ago, my babies were two and six months. I had been laid off from my corporate ladder job.

Decided to create my own "mama" ladder. 🪜

I have learned so much. Won many awards. Brought in millions in revenue. Burned myself out many times. Got myself back up. And more than anything, I am proud of my relationships with myself, my husband, and my children.

This book has been on my heart for years. It is terrifying to share something so personal, but I feel one of my life missions is helping women with money confidence.

We can create what we want, ladies.

Not saying it's easy. It's not.

But why not go after something you really want (time and money freedom) so that you have no regrets? The future years will pass anyway. My first chapter is called:

Why $1 Million? And Why Not You?

PSA: Anything a man can do, women can do bleeding! 🙌❤️ But we are also not machines. We can honor our bodies and our natural cycles as moms + business owners.

Years ago I hit a serious energy wall. I went on five trips in two months. I showed up for my kids in big ways. My nanny quit via text. Stress piled on. I ended those whirlwind weeks by leading my team retreat, seriously burned out ... and, of course, on my period.

I felt miserable.

And in many ways, I had done it to myself.

I decided to work WITH my body after that, instead of fighting against what I already know is coming every month.

I added "Honor My Body ❤️" blocks to my work calendar for the next 12 months during my anticipated period. It is not an exact science but I try not to schedule big events or commit to appearances when I know I will need to give myself grace, rest, and recover.

Be gentle with your body. You only get one.

You are strong, but cannot be flexed all the time.
