”Ooh, I look religious” 😆

ARIA Hall of Fame inductee Marcia Hines is the subject of six very different portraits in the Portrait Artist of the Year semi-final. From working with aluminium to creating a monochrome portrait using peach black paint made from peach pips, the artists take some seriously creative approaches to capturing the Australian music icon.

We've got a story for you. Stream Portrait Artist of the Year now on ABC iview or Sundays 7.30pm on ABC TV.

It’s all happening baby!! VELVET INFERNO has launched and we are loving every second of performing for you all.

Velvet Inferno, the third instalment of the critically acclaimed Velvet show is on now at Sydney Opera House 🪩

Head to the link in my bio for tickets 🎫

Burn baby burn!

Welcome to Velvet. A nightclub where disco reigns supreme and the allure of the dancefloor is inescapable. When a bright-eyed but lost young woman walks in, club owner Country Mike (Brendan Maclean) sees the future. With the help of The Diva (Marcia Hines), a groovy coming-of-age journey ignites.

Velvet Inferno is a 70-minute, non-stop disco spectacular with boiling hot vocals and jaw-dropping circus acts. Directed by Craig Ilott (Gatsby at the Green Light, L’Hotel, Velvet Rewired), expect timeless dancefloor anthems, powerhouse performances and gravity-defying acts.

Be electrified by a red-hot soundtrack of disco classics: If You Could Read My Mind, Raining Men, No More Tears.

Inspired by Studio 54, the legendary New York nightclub famed for its wild parties and radical inclusivity. Blind to colour, creed, class, gender, size, shape or sexuality. A place where icons like Andy Warhol, Mick Jagger and Grace Jones once strutted their stuff.

The disco is coming. Drinks will flow. The dancefloor will be red-hot. Are you ready to join the party?

There’s a sombre feeling after yesterday’s tragedy. The sadness - it’s incomprehensible. These teams - they do it all for us (the fans). I wrap my arms around those hurt, those hurting and the whole community.

I have been listening to y’all, and know you want to try and find a way to love each other through today and celebrate our community.

So let’s make this one about hope. Hope for healing and hope that love wins ❤️ We are all on hope’s side today ❤️ by @themarciahines

I’m saddened to hear of the passing of Angry Anderson. He was one of the most kind and thoughtful guys in Rock and Roll. My deepest condolences to his family and to the guys in Rose Tattoo. Rest in power ❤️🥊
Much love, Marcia. by @themarciahines

“Honesty is the best policy.”

Marcia Hines @themarciahines on why she’ll never sugarcoat the truth: if you lie, you have to remember the lie. If you tell the truth, it just happened.

In this clip from More Questions Than Answers, the ARIA Hall of Famer breaks down the values that have carried her through five decades in the industry: loyalty, trust, and zero tolerance for wasting time on people who need to be managed rather than met honestly.

It’s a mindset every artist, manager, and industry professional could use more of.

“How do you become famous?”

Marcia Hines’ answer: she has no idea. None. Just hard work.

In this clip from More Questions Than Answers, the ARIA Hall of Famer breaks down why chasing fame is the wrong goal entirely. Do the work because you love it. If fame comes, it’s a byproduct, not the point.

It’s a lesson every emerging artist needs to hear, especially in an industry obsessed with going viral overnight.

Episode four of More Questions Than Answers, in conversation with Marcia Hines @themarciahines , is out now. Powered by Mentor Academy @mentoracademyau.

Fifty years in the Australian music industry, and she’s currently performing her latest show, Velvet, at the Sydney Opera House. This isn’t the TV version of Marcia. This is a completely unfiltered conversation, real, no bullshit, and honest.

We get into the loyalty that’s kept her and her manager Peter Rix together for her entire career, how reinvention has kept her relevant across five different eras of Australian music, what touring life actually looks like behind the TV version, and her advice to a sixteen year old just starting out.

One manager. Never slowing down.

Press play.

Oh, Dolly Parton 🖤 A force so strong that I can’t even begin to describe her impact on myself and the world around her, so instead I will share a piece of wisdom she so often gave us - “Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” - and what a life she made for herself 💎 Fly high, Dolly - you were a diamond in a rhinestone world 🕊️ by @themarciahines

I reflected a lot today - Vietnam Veterans Day. I thought about sacrifice, our past and present service men and women, and how much we have to be grateful for. Thank you for your service and your bravery. Let us all pray for peace as we go to sleep this evening ❤️ M xx by @themarciahines

Velvet Inferno the show is a really high intensity workout for all involved! My trainer (Bratha) and I do these stretches before every show. I am not quite sure if he knows what he’s doing, but he sure is cute 🐾

Have a great week y’all 🌈 Looking forward to seeing you at the shows ❤️ by @themarciahines
