Holly Sykes 1986-2017
I don't have many of the pictures I took of Holly anymore because they were lost when my Facebook was shut down. I met Holly when I lived in Denver, Colorado. She was a wild child, but we had a chemistry that was uncanny. We were great friends, lovers, and protectors of each other. We went on road trips all over Colorado every weekend seeing all of the mountains, The Argo Gold Mines, The Garden of the Gods, several shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. We were together for the better part of 2016. Holly was always photogenic and a burst of raw energy. Her and I had a running conversation about coincidences: I say it's a coincidence and she'd always tell me it was God working. Holly was a diabetic and needed her insulin every day. She had almost gone into a diabetic coma twice in my presence. I saved her life on both occasions.

We parted ways in late 2016. She died the following year.

Not a day passes I don't think about her; what she would say about topics, her sarcasm, her laugh, her lightning fast wits.

Rest in Peace Holly 🕊️

I've always identified with Tetsuo from the film Akira.
When the outcast isn't embraced by the village he will burn it down to feel its warmth.

Sometimes I understand exactly how people are driven to suicide. They're not crazy. Maybe their environments and the people around them are just awful.
We look at celebrities who commit suicide and feel so sorry and sad after the fact. But, when they were alive and needed the people around them they were "too much", taken for granted, and dismissed.
Maybe, just maybe, if the people who claimed they loved them took them a little more seriously, and treated them with a little more empathy, they'd still be here. But a retrospective like that would require accountability, which has proved to be the primary Achilles heel of all human beings. We're all too selfish and ego-fragile for accountability.

I had three close friends who took their lives.
• Avik Daas 1987-2006
• Luke Maurier 1981-2018
• Holly Sykes 1986-2017

These were my friends. They're supposed to be here with us. I knew what they were feeling, and we spoke often about mental struggles.

In time, I've somewhat inherited their pain. It's added to my capacity to empathize. I get it. And even if I don't fully get it, I listen. Sometimes that's all someone needs.

I'm not your typical electronic music producer, at all. I don't create this music to belong to these superficial cliques and circles. It's what I grew to love from childhood. I create it as another recreational outlet because I hate therapy, but I also don't want to blow my brains out like Kurt Cobain or Per Yngve Ohlin from Mayhem.

You think you know, but you have no clue who you're looking at. I've been called a heyoka, as the Natives say. The maverick. Which isn't something you can define with how one "looks or dresses" it's the way one thinks.
I don't need your love, your tolerance, your political parties, your cool-kid cliques, nor your deities. I'm an individualist first and foremost. You don't need to tell me to stay strong because it's all I know at this point. Just enjoy the art that comes out while this heart still beats.
