Lifts stalled? Forced reps might be worth trying.

Once you hit failure, a spotter can help you squeeze out a few more reps, adding more high-effort work than you could do on your own.

The idea is simple: more stimulus to drive adaptation. The catch? More fatigue, too.

There’s no strong evidence that forced reps are superior for building muscle or breaking plateaus — but for me personally, they’re a game-changer.

Use them sparingly, and make sure the extra work is actually helping your progress. by @themattmentzer

i just want a quiet life and an unreasonable amount of muscle by @themattmentzer

Here’s why your back isn’t growing …

You’re focusing on how much weight you can move instead of how effectively you’re training each muscle.

Your back isn’t one muscle. Your lats, traps, rhomboids, teres major, and spinal erectors all contribute to your overall back development.

Here’s what to focus on:

• Exercise selection: Combine rows, vertical pulls, and targeted isolation exercises to develop your back from multiple angles.

• Execution: Build a mind-muscle connection. Learn to target the muscles you’re trying to grow instead of just moving the weight from A to B.

• Progressive overload: Once you’ve mastered the movement, progressively increase the weight or reps without sacrificing execution.

Train hard, but make every working set count.

It is what it is. by @themattmentzer

The biggest mistake I see at the gym is people using a weight they can’t even control. Horrible form, using momentum, not even hitting the target muscle.

Drop the weight to a weight you can actually control with perfect form that is primarily only hitting the target muscle — you might be surprised to see how low you really need to go to build muscle effectively. by @themattmentzer
