Aloha Kākou! My name is Quincy, and I am Maui Humane Society’s Pet of the Week! I love making new friends and am always happy to meet someone new. I’m great on leash and love car rides, exploring new places, and joining you on all kinds of adventures. But don’t let my adventurous side fool you! I’m just as happy snuggling up on the couch for a lazy Netflix marathon. Please adopt me today! by @themauinews

ʻAeʻo were sighted for the first time on Kaho‘olawe with three fledglings. Officials with the Kaho‘olawe Island Reserve Commission say the birds’ presence is a good indication that the program to restore the environment on the island is working! Commission executive director Michael Nahoopii said the vegetation is growing back on Kaho‘olawe, thanks to the absence of wild goats, irrigation improvements,  and decades of hard work by volunteers. Mahalo nui to those who have helped! Photo courtesy of the Kaho‘olawe Island Reserve Commission

The Kaho‘olawe Island Reserve Commission has held Makahiki ceremonies on Kaho’olawe annually in observance of a traditional time of feasting and tribute. The island has become a place where Hawaiians have been able to reconnect with the native ceremonies. Photo courtesy of the Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission. by @themauinews

Aloha Kākou! My name is Pele, and I am another Maui Humane Society’s Pet of the Week! I’m a compact little island girl with a serious love for toys. I’m sweet, cuddly, and pretty mellow, so when playtime is over, I’m just as happy hanging out with my people or relaxing with a dog friend nearby. Come adopt me today! by @themauinews
