I nearly died in a hospital bed.
Choking. Mid-seizure. And the person in the room with me didn't know what she was looking at — because nobody had ever trained her to recognise it.

This isn't a story about a bad nurse. It's a story about a system that still doesn't train staff properly to recognise seizures that don't look "textbook."
I'm only here to tell you this because someone else in that room did know what to do.

This is why I do what I do. Follow along — I talk about the gaps in the system nobody else will. 🔴

Up to 100,000 people in the UK live with FND — as disabling as MS or epilepsy, and most people have never heard of it. These are the scrubs from my 10 weeks as a patient. Nobody told me I could ask for a second opinion. You're allowed to ask. Send this to someone who needs to hear it. 🔁

most people have no idea what to do during a functional seizure 🧡
so many of us are aware, hearing every word. this is
what I wish everyone around me had known
save it, and send it to someone who'd be there for you. awareness only spreads if we spread it

"be more considerate of other patients"

that was said to me in the middle of a seizure. i was fully aware, i heard every word, and it's stayed with me ever since.

part 2 of the pain video. on monday the pain got so bad it triggered another one, and that moment came straight back.

seizures don't all look the same. i have them standing, sitting, shouting, and awake the whole time. being aware doesn't make it any less real 🧡

there's a statement going around asking why diagnose someone if they can't be cured. after my FND diagnosis, a care agreement with the ward based on my condition most likely saved my life. that's why a diagnosis matters 🧡

me and @lucca.epilepsy have different conditions but the same first aid 🧡 which one didn't you know? 👇

when to call 999:
• it's their first seizure
• it lasts over 5 minutes
• one seizure follows another
• they're injured
• they have trouble breathing

i almost cried filming this. i was losing oxygen and being told not to call them seizures. i woke up with a tube down my throat and a crash cart next to me

functional or not, they're seizures. telling patients they can't call them that isn't okay, and i hear from so many of you who've been told the same
