Happy 13th Birthday to “The Stanley Steemer Variations”!

Hard to believe we recorded and filmed this between the two of us in only a couple days each (audio then video), and on a dime!

All instrumentation, harmony arranging, co-wrote melodies, audio engineering, filming, video editing, concept: @roger.klug

Costumes, makeup, all vocals, choreography, performance, and co-wrote/improvised melodies of variations, concept: me!

Our continued collaboration: @missyfitmusic

What the critics have been saying about Italian American Reconciliation by @johnp.shanley…

We play only two more weekends starting tomorrow, closing 10/26. Tix at link in bio!

It’s been a wild and deepening ride working with these GREATS (across the board). I’ve never experienced so much freedom in the process as an actor before, and it has truly filled my creative heart to the brim!

Dierdre Donovan of Off Off Online aptly described the magic of Austin Pendleton’s brilliant directorial process:

“Under Pendleton’s direction, Shanley’s 1988 play achieves a vivid emotional texture that feels both spontaneous and deeply considered. A veteran of the American stage, Pendleton is renowned for drawing out truth through inquiry—posing questions that lead actors to discover rather than declare their characters’ inner lives. That sensibility is palpable here: the performances feel lived-in, alert to the contradictions in Shanley’s writing, where tenderness and volatility coexist.

Pendleton’s collaborative touch also shapes the production’s tone and pacing. He works with designers and actors to build an environment that supports risk and invention, allowing the humor to emerge organically rather than as shtick. The result is a revival that feels less like a nostalgic return and more like a renewed conversation—with Shanley’s text, with the actors, and with the audience in the room, invited to rediscover love’s messy, necessary reconciliations.”

What a sincere privilege and joy to be a part of this. Don’t miss it!

Teaching voice, acting and performance techniques is a great privilege. My goal is to be of service to my students in the highest way possible. To create a safe space in which they can relax into the joy and pleasure of singing, embracing technique and alignment in a playful, wholistic way.
Everyone can sing. Our bodies know how to do this. And singing is genuinely good for us!
Side effects include:
✨a deeper sense of presence and relaxation
✨nervous system regulation
✨boosted sense of confidence and personal freedom
✨more grounding in the body and oxygen to its systems
✨joy! 😜🙃🙌🏻💃🏻

I teach all ages and levels, in person and virtually (on a platform created for music lessons- works better than zoom). I offer *free* 20 minute zoom consultations for anyone interested in taking or gifting voice lessons. Link in bio.

A little about me and what I bring to each session:
✨25+ years of consistent one on one vocal training, including a BFA in Musical Theatre from @ccm_musicaltheatre
✨6 years of private voice teaching and seeing major growth in every student who takes consistently
✨career as a professional singer of many genres (including Broadway, symphony soloist, gospel worship leader, jazz clubs, wedding singing and session singing)
✨experience hosting art shares for @broadwayforartsed, honoring the courageous vulnerability it takes to share creative work
✨being a trained volunteer holding space for deep emotional journeying and sharing at virtual meditation retreats
✨my own breathwork, meditation, and yoga practice
✨overcoming mental health struggles especially as they affect my creative and performing life using various tools from The Artists Way @juliacameronlive

I feel grateful for the challenges I’ve faced as a singer, actor, artist and human because they allow me to be of service to my students in special and intuitive ways, whether they pursue singing as a career, just for fun, or anything in between.
Feel free to DM for any questions.

Voice memo audio of the gig at @freebirdkitchenandbar @freebirdfreemusic
I tend to audio record most of my auditions and gigs to review and improve, but also bask and boost myself up and celebrate (both feel important for me as a recovering perfectionist!)

Lemme know if you wanna hear any of the other tunes in this lil set!

Such an absolute pleasure to sing with @mattkingkeys @joepiteo @natjanoff @danashmusic
