🪱 FULLSELF SESSIONS 34 IS OUT IN THE WILD 🪱
Chicago’s very own BAIT THE BAND pulled up and we got DEEP into what it actually means to start a rock & roll band from the ground up. 🎸
We talked about how Gabby, Gavin & Connor found each other, the weird synchronicities that brought the band together, and how a bassline accidentally finding the chords to an existing song can turn into something completely new.
We talked about their FIRST SHOW in Burlington — the nerves, the adrenaline, and that moment when you finally stop thinking about it and just FUCKING PLAY. 🤘
We got into songwriting, improvisation, knowing when to walk away from a song, letting it come back to you, and how “Steady” slowly transformed from an untouched idea into a fuzzed-out, angsty @bait.the.band song.
We talked about getting outside your comfort zone, finding a bigger voice through collaboration, and the beautiful chaos that happens when three people start listening to each other and pushing each other creatively.
AND THEN THERE’S THE REST OF IT…
3AM band texts. Weekly club nights. Vampires. SpongeBob stage design. Party City. Favorite elements. Guitar Hero. Gas station snacks. McDonald’s. Jimmy John’s. Lake Michigan surfing. NSYNC. The Midwest emo revolution. 😂
THIS IS WHAT I LOVE ABOUT @fullselfsessions
The music is serious.
The process is serious.
BUTT THE PEOPLE MAKING IT ARE ALLOWED TO BE FUCKING WEIRD. 🌀
BAIT THE BAND are officially out here in Chicago building their sound, building their repertoire, and getting ready for MORE GIGS.
They’re looking for a LEAD GUITARIST and they’re open to connecting with more shows, people, and opportunities.
So if you’re booking Chicago rock & roll…
BAIT THE BAND IS READY TO PLAY. 🎸🔥
FULLSELF SESSIONS is about documenting this exact moment — artists figuring it out in real time, making mistakes, finding their sound, and becoming something together that none of them could have made alone.
Chicago keeps giving me reasons to believe in ROCK & ROLL!

RAWK HUMAN PLAYER ZERO BACK ON THE GRAM-WEB TO TURN UP & OUT SOME SOUND WAVES! 📡🤖⚡️🤘

Had an absolute BLAST with Chicago’s very own Keifer Douglas talking MUSIC, recording, gear, Chicago RAWK, and the strange winding paths that lead us toward making noise in the first place.
From discovering a micro-cassette recorder at 10 years old and recording bands on an eight-track, to restoring pieces of a legendary Neve console with roots at Ardent Studios in Memphis, @keif.mp3 has spent a lifetime chasing SOUND. 🎛️⚡️
We got into:
📼 Early recordings, trash mics & Portastudios
🎸 Growing up around music and finding your own way into it
🎛️ Breaking recording rules while leaving space for SOUL
🔊 Microphones, room sounds, live multitracks & beautiful studio accidents
🤘 The current Chicago rock scene and getting back to the BASICS
🛸 Pink Floyd, Styx, Kiss, surreal dreams & UFOs
🎶 Knowing when a mix is FINISHED… even when it never really feels finished
❤️ And, ultimately, building community and continuing to CREATE
One thing I love about these conversations is getting to sit down with someone who has dedicated so much of their life to capturing other people’s sounds and finding out what makes THEIR musical universe tick.
No script. No bullshit. Just following the sound waves wherever they want to go. 🌊🔊
Here are some highlights from our time together!
MORE CONVERSATIONS.
MORE MUSIC.
MORE CONNECTION.

PEACE. LOVE. & ROCK AND ROLL. ☮️❤️🤘
