someone has to say it🤷🏼‍♀️. this is not to be taken offense by anyone that has their doctorate, wants to have a solo practice or has their full authority. I personally feel so much pressure amongst being in this profession to be more, do more and basically see/treat anything that comes through the door. While I have the knowledge base, certification and license…I also feel my scope of practice does have to end somewhere. I can practice safely, care for my patients & refer/defer to speciality or a physician when I see fit. Because that’s what’s best practice & safe for our patients. In Family Medicine, we see A LOT of things & the complexity runs deep. This can be a slippery slope and some providers will handle it differently. 2 years in, I have gained a lot of confidence in my practice and learn something new daily but I also know their are a lot of things that’s are not in my scope and to be honest, I don’t get paid enough to do everything. It’s not about the money, cause if it was..i’d be ✌🏼. It’s about doing no harm to our patients and giving the highest quality of care. This post is to resonate with those who also feel the struggle, not to stir any feathers! Let me know how you reel below⬇️. I’d love to discuss! #familymedicineNP #themidwestfnp #familymedicine #nplife #nursepractitioner #nurse #mominmedicine by @themidwestfnp

talk about fighting words😤

if you were following yesterdays stories IKYK but unfortunately this is a weekly occurrence…probably more! A LOT falls under what PCPs have to manage and it’s not for the faint of heart. We do and will do A LOT but we cannot nor should we do it all. Speciality friends thinks of us before you say defer back to PCP pretty please😂😘 #primarycare #FNP #ruralmedicine #medicalhumor #NPlife #themidwestfnp #mominmedicine by @themidwestfnp

Q1 💯 I may be bias but I have the best patients! I say it all the time, primary care isn’t for everybody. The expectation is high, the workload even more. My relationships with my patients & the impact I make in their lives is why I stay. Not the pay, workload or the complexity…cause lemme tell you, it ain’t it most days. God knows better than I, but i’m meant to be here🤍

When I am not at work, I am likely at the gym or reading a book🏋🏼‍♀️📚 Some say I need hobbies, I would say that i’m good!

No body wants to listen to weight loss advice from a provider who is tiny muscles😜 But for real, if they say “eat less, exercise more” say thank you, NEXT. I know everyone’s journey is different & providers have their own opinion about diets, lifestyle & medications for weight loss. I think long term, realistic and other benefits outside of decreasing the number on the scale.

Practice what you preach🙏🏼.

It’s SO MUCH more than “Exercise more, Eat Less”.

I don’t know how many hours I have spent discussing lifestyle changes in depth with my patients every single day. The open a can of worms when we talk weight loss & weight loss meds. Let me preface by saying, I probably prescribe more GLP-1s than a lot of my colleagues bc I do believe it can be a great TOOL for the right patient. Keyword tool, you can’t expect it to do all the work. It certainly will help but if you stop, poof guess what’s back.
.
I may not be a lot of things but I surely prioritize my health and I make sure patients feel that I am not just talking at them but so discussing with them what steps need to be done to be successful. I pride myself on that & truly believe any one at any point can start. Strength training has SO many benefits when it comes to overall health including weight loss but my main concern, long term success in maintaining that weight.
.
Happy to be a product of what I preach. Some days it’s not easy, I am only human myself so I get it that some days you don’t want to. Stay consistent & I promise it’s worth the effort💪🏼.
