#20 Adi-Dassler-Straße 1 in Herzogenaurach

The open road 🛣️ has a funny 😁 way of planting ideas 💡 in your head.

There I was, driving solo through the heart of Germany 🇩🇪, making steady progress toward England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. No passengers, no debates, and absolutely no one to tell me "no." As the road signs 🪧 for Nuremberg flashed past, a sudden spark of inspiration hit: Why not make a detour to Herzogenaurach ⚽️👟?

Before logic could kick in, the indicator was on. I was officially freestyling my route, bound for the holy grail of sports apparel - the global headquarters of adidas.

Now, to be clear, my name wasn't on any VIP guest list 😩😩😩😂. There was no official invitation waiting for me at the front desk. But when you travel alone, a lack of an invitation just means it’s time to improvise. Arriving at the massive, ultra-modern campus, I had to play it cool, soaking in the architecture, the history, and the pure energy of the place where modern sneaker culture was born. It was a thrilling, fly-on-the-wall glimpse into a sports empire 🏢.

It was a quick, unauthorised taste of the "World of Sports" - and it only left me wanting more. Next time, I’m planning to walk through those front doors with an official pass in hand. So watch out this space ⚠️… 😎

#19 Hungarian Football Legends of the FIFA World Cup Part 1

I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate 🥳 the 100th 🎉 post for TheMighTees 🐐 than with three absolute legends of Hungarian 🇭🇺 football.

In less than 36 hours 🫠 (from the UK), I travelled across three different Hungarian towns -Székesfehérvár, Zalaegerszeg, and Győr- to make this happen. It was a true pleasure to meet these men, who remain absolute professionals and incredibly down-to-earth individuals.

Growing up, I was so proud of how they represented our country on the international stage, and I still am today. They shared so many historic and personal moments with me, especially from their FIFA World Cup days. As a self-proclaimed football nerd 🤓, our scheduled time felt way too short - I could have listened to their stories forever.

Key Career Highlights:
Zoltán Kereki; was a member of the Hungarian Team at the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina.

A celebrated former football defender, he earned 37 caps and scored 7 goals for Hungary between 1976 and 1980. He notably started and captained his country through a brutal group stage at the 1978 tournament against Argentina, Italy, and France.

He was named Hungary’s Footballer of the Year in 1976 following an excellent defensive campaign.

Ferenc Csongrádi; was a member of the Hungarian Team at the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain.

A central midfielder by trade (Intelligence Over Physics), he earned 24 caps for Hungary between 1976 and 1984. During the 1982 tournament, he wore the number 16 jersey and featured in Hungary's final group-stage match, coming on as a substitute in the 70th minute during their 1–1 draw against Belgium.

Péter Hannich was a member of the Hungarian Team at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

An intelligent attacking midfielder, he earned 27 caps and score 2 goals for Hungary between 1982 and 1987. His international career peaked with his inclusion in the 1986 World Cup roster, featuring in the group-stage clash against reigning European champions France.

Golden Boot Winner of the `81-`82 Season of NB1.

Adidas produced this high-grade vinyl faux-leather (produced heavily by Adidas's French manufacture branch, MFS) bag exclusively for the Hungarian Football Federation (HFF/MLSZ)🇭🇺. Made in France🇫🇷.

Zoltán Kereki
(born in 1953) is a former defender for Haladás, Zalaegerszegi TE (ZTE), and the Hungarian national football team. He became a registered football player for his hometown youth club, Kőszegi Textiles SE, at the age of ten. At sixteen, he made his debut in the senior team in the third division (NB III). His journey then led him to Körmend for college and the local football team, where they earned promotion to the second division (NB II) after a two-year stint in the third tier.

In 1973, he became a top-flight player in Szombathely. Over six seasons with Haladás, he scored 33 goals in 163 league matches-an impressive feat for a defender. He played in the Hungarian Cup (MNK) final with his team in 1975 and was named Hungarian Footballer of the Year in 1976.

When Haladás was relegated from the first division (NB I) in 1979, he signed with Zalaegerszegi TE. Over fourteen seasons, he made 187 league appearances and scored 17 goals. Between 1984 and 1986, he played in Austria for Wacker Innsbruck, winning a bronze medal in the Austrian Bundesliga. He scored 6 goals in 23 league matches. During that bronze-medal season, they defeated Sturm Graz 5–0 in a match where Kereki scored a hat-trick of headers in just 11 minutes. This remains the all-time fastest hat-trick record in the Austrian Bundesliga.

While in Szombathely, he earned multiple caps for the youth national team. He then made his debut for the senior national team in 1976. By 1980, he had earned 37 caps and scored 7 goals; no other defender has scored more goals for the Hungarian national team. He played in the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina, playing every minute of all three group-stage matches.

After retiring as a player, he pursued a coaching career. by @themightees

This early `80s dark blue PUMA long-sleeve shirt made from heavier poly-cotton blends/classic shiny polyester fabrics. Features the white classic "leaping cat" Puma logo, flock-printed on the chest, white sleeve trim stripes and elasticated white cuffs on the long-sleeves. It is worn with black short and black or dark blue socks. The number and the SZEOL's 🔵⚫️ Crest are screen printed; unfortunately, both of them have faded away.

During the 1981–82 season, SZEOL AK competed in the Nemzeti Bajnokság I (NB I), the top tier of Hungarian football, following their promotion. Led by head coaches such as József Kovács, Tamás Pataki, László Zalai, it marked the club's 47th season in the top flight. However, the campaign proved highly challenging, ultimately resulting in relegation.

Season Summary
Despite starting the season with high expectations and playing in front of large home crowds (such as nearly 15,000 spectators against Újpesti Dózsa), SZEOL AK struggled for consistency. They started the campaign on a difficult note, waiting until their ninth match to secure a victory.

The absolute highlight of their season took place on 7th October 1981, when SZEOL AK stunned the defending champions, Ferencvárosi TC, with a memorable 2-1 victory in front of 12,000 ecstatic fans. The historic winning goal was scored via a spectacular long-range bomb by László Orosházi.

SZEOL AK finished in 17th place out of 18 teams and was relegated to the NB II along with Volán SC and Ózdi Kohász.

#18 Ballers CP @ballerscp_ in Cardiff

🚨 Finally... Cardiff 🏉 gets the shop it deserves! 🚨

As soon as I read the BBC article 📰 (link👇🏼) about Cardiff's brand-new vintage football shirt shop, my first thought was: "It's about time!"⏲️👏⚽

A shop like this has been long overdue in South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. Yes, I know... it's the 21st century and you can buy almost anything online. But nothing beats walking into a proper shop, browsing the rails and finding that one shirt you've been searching for. 🧐

So, with the shop only 20 minutes from my front door, there was only one thing to do... jump in the car and investigate. (It's called research... honest!😉)

Massive credit to Eleri Williams, the young entrepreneur behind this brilliant but well-thought-out idea 💡 (with a little help from her dad's incredible shirt collection and love of Diego Maradona ⚽🔵⚪😉). She said football and football shirts "are so culturally relevant" – and I couldn't agree more.

Before meeting Eleri herself, I had a lovely chat 💬 with her mum, who was running the shop at the time. She probably wondered, "Who is this guy asking so many questions?" 😂 But she took my football enthusiasm in her stride, and we ended up having a fantastic conversation, bouncing ideas and football stories back and forth. That's the beauty of football - it brings people together, even complete strangers.

If you're a football shirt collector, a ground-hopper, a nostalgic football fan, or just fancy wearing something with a bit more character than the latest high-street fashion... get yourself down there. You might just walk out with your next favourite football shirt! 👕⚽❤️

Special THANKS 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 goes to

Eleri Williams @ballerscp_ and her Family

#16 & #17 Landersheim "The cursed preparation" 🔮

Landersheim was the headquarters 🏬 of adidas France, managed by Horst Dassler, the son of Adi Dassler. As part of Hungary's World Cup preparations, manager Lajos Baróti arranged a highly unconventional training match against fellow World Cup finalists Tunisia. The game was played behind closed doors, lasted only 50 minutes (two 25-minute halves), and finished 2–2. While no spectators were allowed, around 200 journalists were invited to watch.
The match was played on a brand-new adidas artificial turf surface - cutting-edge technology at the time, but something completely unfamiliar to both teams, especially the Hungarians. The players struggled to adapt and complained throughout the game. Looking back, this unusual surface became the first "felt domino" in a chain of events that derailed Hungary's World Cup campaign.

During the match, forward Bela Varady suffered an injury that ruled him out of the 1978 FIFA World Cup, while several other Hungarian players also picked up minor injuries. In retrospect, critics have argued that the match appeared to serve the interests of political figures and influential members of the Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ), particularly its president, Istvan Kutas, more than those of the national team. The fixture has since been cited as an example of how political and administrative priorities💰could at times take precedence over the sporting interests of the squad.

The next "felt domino" came in Hungary's final warm-up match, a heavy 4-1 defeat to England. Then came the infamous Harrods shoplifting incident involving the wives of two Hungarian players while the team was in London. The controversy cost Laszlo Fazekas the captaincy and created deep divisions between the players and the football authorities.

The downward spiral continued at the World Cup, where Hungary lost all three group matches. Within a year, two of the country's brightest young stars, Andras Torocsik and Tibor Nyilasi, were handed one-year football bans, bringing an unhappy end to one of the most turbulent chapters in Hungarian football history.

#16 & #17 Landersheim "The cursed preparation" 🔮

I recently recovered 🔍 an old documentary 📼 about the Hungarian National Football Team during their preparations for the 1978 FIFA World Cup ⚽️🏆 (see in the Episode #17).

One of the most fascinating discoveries was a famous yet highly unusual closed-door match played in Landersheim, France, in May 1978.

After realising that Landersheim is only a 15 minute drive from Dettwiller - where I visited during Episode #15 of The G.O.A.T. Tour - I contacted @annickphillipps again to see if she could guide me there. As always, she was happy to help, and we explored the area together with her lovely family 🚒🥐🇫🇷🤗.

Before heading to Landersheim, I made a second visit to the adidas factory 👟🏭. A huge thank you to @remy_phillipps for his warm hospitality. We even visited the abandoned house 🏚️ of Horst Dassler. What an incredible property…

Unfortunately, adidas moved on - driven by financial decisions - and left its historic headquarters in Landersheim for good in 2018.

However, thanks to dedicated local residents, former adidas employees, and skilled shoemakers such as the Phillipps family, along with many others, the area's rich legacy and history continue to live on. Their passion has preserved the traditions of craftsmanship and passed them on to the next generation, keeping alive the "recipe" of traditional shoemaking for those who call the Bas-Rhin department in France's Grand Est region home.

Even after adidas relocated its French headquarters from Landersheim in 2018, the spirit and heritage of the village remain deeply rooted in its people.

"To be continued"... ⚽

Special THANKS 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 goes to

@annickphillipps & @remy_phillipps (and rest of the Coworkers/Shoemakers) for the guidance/tour and the SUPER warm welcome/hospitality… Merci beaucoup!
