A few things I’m still thinking about after PacWest 2026. The most interesting conversations weren’t really about real estate in isolation. They were about AI, economics, politics, emotional intelligence, wellness and the future of how we work and make decisions. Real estate is rarely just about real estate. Interest rates affect confidence. Politics affects investment. Technology changes how we evaluate information. Psychology affects how we respond to uncertainty…and somewhere in the middle of all of it, we make some very expensive decisions. Rates came down. Parts of the economy recovered. So why does real estate still feel stuck? At a conference yesterday, an economist shared an interesting disconnect: inflation and unemployment alone aren’t explaining how people currently feel about the economy. After years of rate hikes, inflation, supply shocks and economic uncertainty, confidence appears to be recovering more slowly than some of the underlying data. And that matters for real estate. Because housing activity isn’t driven by interest rates alone. It’s also driven by whether people feel confident enough to make a very large, very long-term financial decision.
