i am so happy to announce that i now work at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Breast Surgical Oncology.

as i adjust to this new beginning, i can’t help but to reflect on my journey. for the first time, i am beyond proud of myself & my accomplishments.

this position is a major full-circle moment for me.. from claiming i’d move to htx to work at MDACC my undergrad freshman year, to losing my great-grandmother to breast cancer on my birthday that same year. this isn’t just a dream come true, but a true blessing from God.

would i do it all over? only if God made a way, again! without Him, family, & friends, none of this would be possible. so thank you God and to all of you!

allow me to reintroduce myself; i’m mariah, a certified physician assistant, aka a walking blessing.

this was one of the most trying times i’ve ever experienced. studying for my boards wasn’t exactly as planned... i suffered from illness, anxiety, depression, death, heartbreak, and insomnia. i was barely getting 3hrs of sleep nightly and couldn’t focus on studying whatsoever. no remedy helped. my original PANCE date was the same day i delivered a funeral reading. now, i felt like all odds were against me; rescheduling meant i was outside of the “success” timeframe for passing after graduation per analysts. despite the odds, i had no choice but to set a new date, and i would be one of the last in my class to take it.

for those that don’t know me, i am God’s favorite lol. but seriously, i prayed day in & day out, especially days waiting for results. still, i never felt confident or at peace. God told me i passed; yet, i continued recounting every question i could’ve missed. the night before getting results, i got one hour of sleep. i had a pre-employment meeting that morning, and i kept thinking, “so if i failed, what am i going to tell them... do i even go to the meeting!?” this didn’t stop me from getting up & ready. some call it delulu, but i call it faith! i knew God didn’t bring me this far to leave me, and i know He will keep His promises. i did my part, and He would do His.

as i put on my last piece of clothing, the email notification came in. all i continue to say is, “…but God!”
