![THE ART OF ADORNMENT
Before jewellery became a symbol of status, fashion or personal style, it was already an art form.
This miniature broad collar, created in Egypt during the Early Ptolemaic Period between 332 and 246 BCE, brings together gold, carnelian, turquoise and lapis lazuli in an intricate composition of colour, geometry and natural forms.
Look closely and the necklace begins to read less like an accessory and more like a miniature work of art — each stone, shape and repeated motif contributing to a carefully constructed visual language.
Across ancient cultures, adornment was never merely decorative. It could communicate identity, ritual, power, belief and beauty.

Perhaps that is why, thousands of years later, jewellery still occupies the space between art and the body.
