A river became a painting. The painting became the backdrop to THE NAT GALA. Now its sale will support work for Nature.

Painted by @andrew_gifford_artist along the Dordogne River in France, the original work shaped the Gala space at a much larger scale. A detail from the painting was enlarged across the green carpet, bringing the landscape into the room.

The original 120 × 120 cm oil painting is now being auctioned, with all proceeds going through THE NAT Fund Inc. to support @conservationorg, @bluemarinefoundation and @openplanetorg.

A Regenerative Icon is born.

THE NAT was founded to find the individuals that can change the world, to shine a light on them, so the world can find paths to a better future.

@tenzinseldon is one of those leaders.

At THE NAT GALA on Sunday evening, @tenzinseldon introduced GDR, a framework for measuring economic growth that ensures the natural infrastructure we depend on is no longer extracted and destroyed, but valued and regenerated.

Before world leaders, Prime Ministers, climate scientists, activists and investors, Tenzin unveiled Gross Domestic Regeneration, GDR. The framework is laid out in her pioneering white paper and built to do what GDP never could.

Her argument was simple. GDP measures what we produce, but it has never once measured what we destroy to produce it. This means a nation can post record growth while quietly liquidating the very natural foundations its future stands on. We have been running the world on half a ledger.

In minutes, she reframed a question the global economy has asked for nearly a century: not what did we grow, but what did we regenerate? What did we leave behind?

And in the room, people who have spent their entire lives with the old numbers leaned in. For the first time, this was not another critique of GDP. It was the second number built to sit beside it, and to expose everything it hides.

FEMINIST went to the NAT GALA to hear a little more from the women shaping the future of our planet.

The NAT’s mission is to amplify awareness and accelerate action for Nature, informed by the Global Biodiversity Plan, agreed by world leaders in Montreal.
For its second year, it brought together the worlds of culture and philanthropy, raising millions to fund critical nature restoration projects around the globe.

We were on a mission to speak to as many women as possible, because according to a UN reporting its women and girls – including students, moms, indigenous women, and celebrities – who have been doing the leadership needed for global and national climate movements to succeed.

We’re calling that out, and we’re also using this Climate Week to get inspired to get involved! We’ve got a planet to save!

Water touches culture, identity, science, policy and the economy.

At THE NAT GALA 2026, those worlds met on one stage, as artists, scientists and leaders each approached water through the work they know best.
