Today I lost the Goldenest of golden girls. She had the friendliness of Blanche , sarcasm of Dorthy and the stories of Sophia. She was strict yet soft. She had a great sense of humor! She pushed me in ways I didn't know I needed. She chose to love and step in for all of her grandchildren at some point in our lives. Some longer than others. Some their entire lives.
This woman knew how to charm and have a good time. But when push came to shove She might push you if she had to...or at least think about it. If her mouth didn't say it, her face sure would. (I have the same telling face, and so does one of her great-grandchildren.)

She discovered my passion for hair early on. About 12 years old, she figured out I could wield a curling iron and take directions with that home color kit. It was game over from there. I have done my Mimi's hair since I was 12 and for most of my life. I loved how much she loved my haircuts and colors she let me do on her. Even her bright red streak phase. I take full responsibility for the sass that followed that era. Nothing made me feel better than for her to smile after I got a hold of that head to cut and color it. The twinkle in her eyes and smile on her face. "No one does it like you, Shanika," she would say. I'll miss our hair days after I do it one last time for your last party.

I'm trying so hard to not be sad because I know you are with Jesus the Love of your life and one of the BEST men there was Earth side. Im finding peace that you're with Papa again dancing across heaven and if allowed trying to make Jesus blush with the amount of kisses she is laying on that man! Reunited...whole and in the presence of the purest form of LOVE. My Jesus is a comforter, and he will draw near to me and everyone who has a broken heart by the loss of you. When we cry, he will collect our tears. I will have the joy of the Lord in unpredictable moments, and it will be my strength. I love you a Bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck, Melba Ruth. I could go on and on with reminiscing, but we will catch up later. But until then, I'll just say...UNTIL I SEE YOU AGAIN!

Why a side gig?

Because I have 3 kids… and apparently every sport comes with:
💸 sign-up fees
💸 tournament fees
💸 uniform fees
💸 “surprise” fees they forgot to mention 😅

And I’d really love to take family vacations that don’t make my bank account sweat.

Also… making extra money shouldn’t mean I’m stuck behind the salon chair even MORE and missing time with my people.

Let’s be honest… I’d rather:
✔️ work smarter
✔️ have more flexibility
✔️ maybe even afford a massage for these knots in my neck from doing all that hair 💇‍♀️😂

Did I mention Rush comes in individual packets?! 🙌⚡

Because let me tell you… end-of-year field trip season is no joke.

Three kids.
Sack lunches.
Water bottles.
Four locations.
Three tours.
And approximately 47,000 steps (give or take 😅)

Normally I’d be dragging by stop #2… but not this time.
