A storyteller odyssey from Philly to Scotland: hundreds of songs on the way, now shares his songs and the gift of songwriting to as many as he can.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It's wild to remember that everywhere we go, whether it's just a walk on the beach or a performance onstage in front of a crowd, we have another human there with us, listening and taking it in, filtered through a womb, but THERE with a front row seat! I'm amazed by Gabi: practicing on tired nights after work, singing through short breath, standing on sore feet, and performing beautifully at our album release show in her third trimester! Cheers to the woman I get to do life with and all the mothers-to-be carrying and carrying on with life while somehow growing more! *Photo cred @filumphotos and @izza.toledo taken in Leith Depot by @thenkin

It’s a real joy sending out albums to good homes. Digital, hard copy, whatever, it makes me happy to know you’re listening. This is a special album made in a burst of inspiration. Find a way to add it to your collection. by @thenkin

This month we celebrate #10, and we’re doing so with a nod to a familiar theme here in the club. How does regional music become an international phenomenon?

What is the alchemy involved? We saw this in Buena Vista Social Club (Cuba) and Graceland (South Africa). Now we’re off to Jamaica, back in time to 1973 to meet the Wailers, a band that had been struggling for success and a breakthrough for a decade and found themselves broke and stuck in London. A chance meeting with a white Jamaican label owner leads them to a Faustian choice: He’ll change their sound and introduce them to an international rock audience, but the cost will be their friendship, their band, and more.

This record is revolutionary, danceable, and full of love. It launched Bob Marley into the stratosphere, and it marked a crossroads for reggae in both sound and spirit.

And the best bit is not only are we hosting this in Portobello, but we are launching it in Stockbridge S&G for the first time too ✌🏼

Portobello - Weds 21st October - 7.30pm
Stockbridge - Monday 2nd November - 7.30pm

Good Grief! Still buzzing from the record release this past weekend. Thanks @cameroxburgh and @timpcraven for your beautiful music and poetry additions to the night, and for all that came to celebrate. Word on the street is this is a great record! Go listen to the whole album Good Grief on Spotify and give us a follow, and better yet, buy a copy on Bandcamp. We're at The Royal Oak this Saturday to benefit our friend who's been deported, who we want back! If you missed it, come see us play these songs. If not, come see us again! taken in Leith Depot by @thenkin

Alright alright alright. Lots to celebrate! My birthday brings with it a new record, "Good Grief," found anywhere you can stream or purchase an album under my name. Tonight we play it live at Leith Depot! It's been quite a journey of life, with fatherhood just around the corner and a winding path leading me here. I'm grateful for the muse that stays with me like a slow-blinking cat across the room, for Gabi for all her love, beautiful singing, and support, and all the musicians that keep making/playing these songs with me in Nashville, Philly, and now in Edinburgh. Lots of love to all of you out there, and I hope you catch a listen and buy a record if you like it, or follow on Spotify. Best way to spend your dough, if you ask me! Take care out there and see some of you tonight, the rest of you down the line! Photo cred @j_b_seal taken in Portobello, Edinburgh by @thenkin

This summer, I co-wrote "I'm Thinking Beyond Myself" with Edinburgh dads just as I prepare to be a father myself. Their call for more support to meet families' modern needs is clear and carries beyond Scotland. We performed it and two other originals for the first time this Friday at the Fringe Festival. I hope it resonates and helps bring about change. Thanks to @dadsrockorg for the opportunity to amplify dads' voices in our community through song. taken in The Royal Mile Edinburgh by @thenkin

Adrienne Lenker - Bright Future

“Let no machine eat away our dream
Baby, take my hand, let’s go together”

A poetic, raw, and deep collection of songs that showcases Lenker’s unique storytelling and song-crafting prowess. The head of rabidly followed “Big Thief,” Lenker, heads out to the woods with old friends and makes a Grammy-nominated masterpiece: we drink wine and dive into it.
