The Honjin Murders 🔪

Finally got a chance to get on to the "Kindaichi Series" by Seishi Yokomizo. Considered one of the best written *locked room murder mystery* it surely lived upto it's hype.

The setting was eerie, and captivating, with many red herrings along the way to capture and distract the focus of the reader, while making the read highly captivating. The early 90's rural japan setup works wonderfully and transported me into the era smoothly. Kosuke Kindaichi as the young, eccentric detective was one of my favourite characters in the book, along with Suzuko, the youngest daughter of the Ichiyanagi family whom I found so endearing despite her shortcomings 🥺

All in all a solid read, though the ending despite of being very difficult to guess did not satiate my mind like I hoped it would.

Independence by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni! 🪷

Yet another beautiful book by her, set during the 1947 Indian independence era, the book authentically explores various themes of love, loss, patriotism, communal conflict and identity in a country on the verge of independence yet facing religious upheaval. The story is beautifully etched against the tumultous backdrop and evokes feelings of betrayal, trust, longing, love, and nationalism at various points throughtout.

This book made me feel so many beautiful emotions and took me on this magical journey, one which I didn't anticipate. Starting the book I wasn't sure what I was getting into and was a bit lost in the beginning but as the plot developed, I was thoroughly immersed in it's whimsical world.
The way Aunt Analea lead her life, her free spirited energy, her zeal and all her eccentricities, she was such a wonderful character, and her story took me on a journey of it's own, made me understand how the happiest souls can still have dark shadows lingering around, ones which sometimes slowly eat away at their hearts.
Clementine and Iwan's story was as charming as it was intriguing and kept me thoroughly intrigued. The caring, charming and understanding man that Iwan was and how he complimented the restraint, reserved nature of Clementine yet made her look at her herself through his eyes, at the side of her she yearned for bur didn't have the courage to accept, he comforted her, made her took notice of all that made her a beautiful person, and the ending was just a cherry on the cake.
What I will keep with me from this book is to live every moment freely, take chances and not be scared of change.
Also, to always chase the 🌙

Had been waiting to read my first Claire Keegan book for long. Small things like these, even with the slightly heavier language gives a very profound message to ponder upon through a very subtle yet clear storytelling. I had very high hopes from the book given the high praise I've seen it getting from people, and even though the it was an impactful short read, I did not found it to be extraordinary maybe because the characters had not developed so much as to form an emotional bond with them but with the larger lingering issue which was addressed. 🕊️

PROJECT HAIL MARY! 🌌

What an amazing book, my first audiobook and would highly recommend listening to it, the narration by Ray Porter @the.ray.porter blew me off, gave life to the characters, made the story much more enjoyable and left me gasping for more.

Though being a sci-fi novel, the book explores various themes of friendship, fear, survival, hope and an unforgettable camaraderie between two not so usual allies faced with the same problem; saving their home, their species!

The audiobook kept me hooked and I couldn't wait to read one chapter after another, there were rarely any boring bits, being one of this years' highly engaging read. Also, the narration style was gripping; switching between the past and present, and focusing on the science as well as the emotional quotient of the story beautifully.

Roland and Rocky are the dream team, and I am so glad I could experience the world created by Andy Weir which will stay with me for long!

Like Rocky would have said, it was AMAZE, AMAZE, AMAZE 🚀🌌

My first Meiko Kawakami book which I'd been planning to read for long! Going into this book I knew it would be a different reading experience and so it was!

All the lovers in the night is heartbreakingly beautiful, it follows the story of Fuyuko, who lives alone in Tokyo, working as a proofreader, her mundane, ordinary life and the exploration of the layers of deep emotional traumas that have consumed her mind and shaped the person she has become; a reclusive, distant soul trying to survive in a world that demands individuals to fit in. Her journey through loneliness, longing, betrayal, addiction, depression and facing her true emotions, the reality of it all is beautifully showcased.

Even though the narration and pace of the story might not be everyone's cup of tea, but there was a sweet melancholy, a nod to the brokenness of humans, and survival ( how life goes on even when we are at the rock bottom, grasping for air ) 🌃

The way Fuyuko realises her self sabotaging tendencies, her chosing the paths of least resistance without much thought or commitment to her true self, which ultimately led her to lead the life she had was heartbreaking yet empowering to witness.

It's not a happy story, but it sure is a story about hope.
