Sydjylland, Denmark 🇩🇰

I’ve spent so many holidays here over the years and somehow it still makes me happy every single time.

Life feels a little slower. I notice the small things again. I breathe a little deeper: I always find a sense of calm here.

But this time Denmark became special in a completely new way.
And I love that a place that already meant so much to me now holds an entirely different kind of memory too.

📍 Somewhere between Alta and Tromsø, Norway 🇳🇴

When I booked the bus from Alta to Tromsø I mostly thought of it as a way to get from one place to another. Turns out that the bus ride itself was one of the most beautiful parts of the trip.

For more than 7 hours the view outside kept changing: fjords, mountains, tiny villages, autumn colours and that ridiculously blue sky. I basically spent the whole journey staring out of the window and taking way too many photos and videos. I was totally in love with this september vibes in Northern Norway. ❤️
I think autumn made it really special. Everything was starting to turn yellow and orange while the mountains and fjords still had those deep blues and greens.

So if you’re travelling through Northern Norway in autumn don’t automatically think of a long bus ride as wasted travel time. Get a window seat and enjoy the ride!

And apparently I haven’t seen the best of it yet: while I was in Alta, someone told me that next time I should start all the way up in Kirkenes and travel west by bus from there.

Not sure I needed another idea for my Norway list… but here we are. 🇳🇴

📍Hesten, Senja 🇳🇴

Hiking Hesten on a grey and rainy day in Senja?
Yes, yes, yes!

I had been looking forward to this hike for quite a while (I booked it months before starting my trip to Norway). The weather forecast wasn’t exactly promising but we decided to go anyway. A little rain never hurt anyone.

We were actually pretty lucky. It didn’t rain too much, the trail wasn’t too muddy and we could enjoy those incredible views almost the entire way. Maybe the weather forecast even did us a little favor because there were only a few other people on the trail that day. So we had plenty of time to make our way up, have some snacks and drinks, take photos, enjoy the views and make our way back down.

A huge thank you to @arcticwithhenrik for being such a great guide and making the whole hike so much fun despite the weather.

And seriously? A little rain doesn’t ruin a view like this, does it? 🤗

📍 Alta, Norway 🇳🇴

This is exactly why "I'm going to bed early" never works when I'm on vacation in Northern Norway.

Be honest: Would you go to bed early or would youbstay outside to see this magic?

📍 Alta Canyon, Sautso 🇳🇴

I knew Alta would be beautiful. I just didn’t know it would look so beautiful in autumn. 🥰
One of the hikes I really wanted to do while staying in Alta was the hike to Alta Canyon. So one morning I packed my bag and headed out on my own.

The trail is about 12,6km there and back and is actually rated as an "easy" hike. For MOST of the way ... I would agree.

You walk through wide open landscapes surrounded by autumn colours with mountains in the distance and hardly anyone around.

There are also a few small streams to cross along the way. Most of them were no problem at all. But then there was the last one.. uff. I was struggeling.
The water was flowing pretty strongly and the only way across was over a couple of wooden planks. I stood there for quite a while before finally convincing myself to go. Probably not a big deal for some people, but for me? One of the biggest deals during the hike. I was very relieved when I made it to the other side..

The closer I got to the canyon, the more the landscape started to change. The last part down towards the viewpoint? Let’s just say “easy hike” suddenly felt a little questionable...
It gets pretty steep and standing there on my own with slightly shaky legs definitely made me wonder for a second what I had gotten myself into.

But then I saw the canyon. WOW!

The Alta River far below. Those huge canyon walls. All those autumn colours around them… I just stood there for a while trying to take it all in.

But the canyon wasn’t even the only highlight of this hike. The entire way there was amazing!
12.6 km, around 4 hours, slightly shaky legs and approximately 200 photo stops later ......
..... absolutely worth it.

What about you? Do you prefer hiking alone or with someone (ore more) by your side? 🤗

📍Alta, Northern Norway

There’s a version of me that only seems to exist when I’m in Norway.

A happier one. A calmer one. But also a more adventurous and fearless one.

I want to be outside all day. I want to see what is behind the next corner. I want to climb that hill just for the view (every view leaves me speechless, oh my gosh). I want to rush outside every time the northern lights appear, no matter how cold, windy or late it is. I say yes to things I might normally overthink. I want to explore, to notice to experience everything!

Somehow I feel more present. More alive. More like myself.

And maybe that’s why it will always be the north. It's the way I feel here surrounded by mountains, fjords and this kind of peace.

📍 Alta, Norway 🇳🇴

First full day in Alta. First little hikes.
And I think I’m going to like it here. 🤍

I’m spending two weeks in Norway this time, with an entire week in Alta, a place I’ve been wanting to explore for quite a while. So of course one of the first things I did after arriving was head outside.

My first little hike took me up Bossekopberget. Nothing huge, nothing complicated - just the perfect way to get my first impression of this place.
After walking up Bossekopberget and taking a little break I somehow decided that one viewpoint wasn’t enough - so Komsatoppen was next!

And I’m very glad it was.

Views over Alta, the Altafjord and the surrounding landscape with all those beautiful mountains.

Not a bad way to spend my first full day in Alta.
Five more days to explore. 🇳🇴

📍 Barendorf, Germany

There’s something special about my sunday mornings.

For years I have had this little routine of going for an early walk on sunday mornings along the beach of Barendorf (and around Barendorf).

No matter the season, no matter the weather.
Here in northern Germany we like to say: There is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing! 🫡

There is something about being outside while everything is still quiet and most people are probably still asleep. And every now and then getting up early rewards me with mornings like you see here on these pictures.

Calm water, swans slowly passing by and a sky that changes its colors during my peaceful sunday walk. I think that’s why I have kept this routine for so many years. It’s not really about chasing the perfect sunrise. It’s simply about starting the day outside and slowing down.

Maybe this is your reminder to go for an early walk this tomorrow. ☀️

A little reminder to notice the moments you weren’t looking for.

Like finding the moon still hanging in the morning sky above a passing Finnlines ship.
