What does a more attainable path to homeownership look like in Silicon Valley? 👀 I got a first look at The Kirk by AL Homes, a brand-new community of 18 duet-style single-family homes in East San Jose. 🏡 4 bedrooms + 2.5 bathrooms 📐 Approx. 1,500–1,900 sqft ☀️ Solar + energy-efficient systems 🚗 Attached garages 📍 East San Jose 💰 Starting around $1.2M But the bigger story isn’t just the homes. As Silicon Valley home prices continue to push higher, there’s a growing “missing middle”, people who earn too much to qualify for traditional affordable housing programs, but still struggle to reach homeownership in one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. I like seeing builders think about how we can use land more efficiently while still creating homes that feel beautiful, functional and genuinely livable. Does every Silicon Valley home need a huge lot? Or can thoughtful density help make room for more homeowners? 18 homes won’t solve the Bay Area housing shortage but it’s an interesting step in the right direction.
