After your baby is born, there’s still one more stage of labor — delivering the placenta.
The good news? In most cases, you can take your time. The placenta is 𝒏𝒐𝒕 considered 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 unless it’s been more than 30 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒕𝒆𝒔 since delivery.

⏳𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂 𝒅𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒕𝒔 𝒐𝒘𝒏:
• Allows your uterus to contract naturally
• Reduces the risk of unnecessary interventions
• Helps preserve the body’s rhythm after birth

⚠️ Pulling on the cord or rushing can increase the risk of complications — so unless there’s an emergency, it’s okay to say, “𝑰’𝒅 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕.”

They’ll ask why you’re being “extra”… and you’ll just be protecting your peace & doing what’s best for baby ✌🏾

From the moment your baby arrives, you set the tone — and it starts with the plan:

✨𝑮𝒐𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒓 – Do you want 𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒖𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏-𝒕𝒐-𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏 before any poking or prodding?
🫀 𝑪𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 – Delayed until it turns white? Say that.
🤱🏾 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 – Planning to 𝒆𝒙𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒅? Put it in writing.
👶🏾 𝑰𝒇 𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒂 𝒃𝒐𝒚 – Circumcision or no?
💉 𝑴𝒆𝒅𝒔 – Vitamin K, Hep B, Erythromycin — learn your options and decide for your baby.
📝 𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 + 𝑻𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 – Delay them? Do them bedside? Send a parent to accompany baby? Your call.
🚪 𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔 – Who’s allowed in, and when? Boundaries = peace.

Your baby, your rules — and your plan should reflect that 🧘🏾‍♀️
A 𝑩𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒉 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝑻𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆 is coming 🔜 to make it easier for you to lay it all out. Stay tuned!

💔She’s 6 weeks pregnant…and bleeding. It’s one of the scariest things a newly pregnant person can face.

In early pregnancy, 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 can be normal — especially around the time your period would’ve come. But 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒚 𝒃𝒍𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒐𝒓 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒕𝒔? That’s not something to ignore.

Here’s what you need to know:
❗ Always call your provider if you experience vaginal bleeding during pregnancy
❗ They may order labs (like hCG) or schedule an ultrasound
❗ Stay hydrated, rest, and avoid lifting or strenuous activity until evaluated
❗ Most importantly — 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈.

Whether it’s a threatened miscarriage or something else, you deserve compassionate care and clear answers.
If you’re going through this right now — I’m sending you love. You are not alone 🩺❤️

“Why are you telling me NOT to push when I feel so much pressure?!” 😩🤰🏽

Mama, that intense rectal pressure can make you feel like your baby is coming RIGHT NOW! 👶🏽

But feeling the urge to push doesn’t always mean you’re fully dilated!

If your cervix isn’t completely open, your nurse may recommend changing positions or avoiding forceful pushing to reduce pressure on your cervix. 🤍

👇🏽 Did you feel the urge to push before reaching 10 cm?

“Why is my cervix getting SWOLLEN during labor?!” 😳🤰🏽

Mama, your cervix is supposed to thin out and dilate during labor, but sometimes it can become swollen instead! 😩

This may happen when baby’s head puts uneven pressure on the cervix or when pushing occurs before full dilation.

Cervical swelling can slow labor progress, but it doesn’t automatically mean you need a C-section! 🤍

👇🏽 Did you experience a swollen cervix during labor?

“Why are you putting me on MAGNESIUM after delivery?!” 😳💉
Mama, just because you’ve delivered doesn’t mean the risk of preeclampsia complications disappears!

Magnesium sulfate may be given after delivery to help PREVENT seizures in patients with preeclampsia with severe features or other high-risk conditions. 🩺

And here’s something important: magnesium does NOT lower your blood pressure!

“Why is my blood pressure HIGH after I already had my baby?!” 😳🩺

Mama, delivering your baby doesn’t mean you’re automatically in the clear for preeclampsia!🤰🏽

Postpartum preeclampsia can develop AFTER delivery, even if your blood pressure was normal throughout pregnancy.

And yes, it can become serious if left untreated! 🚨

“What happens if I REFUSE my induction?!” 😳🤰🏽

Mama, you have the right to decline a recommended induction! 🤍

But before making that decision, it’s important to understand WHY your provider is recommending it, the risks of waiting, and what monitoring may be needed if you choose to continue your pregnancy. 🩺

Your voice matters, but so does understanding the medical risks! 🤰🏽

👇🏽 Have you ever declined a recommended induction?

“I don’t want to be INDUCED just because I’m past my due date!” 😤🤰🏽

Mama, your due date is an ESTIMATE, not an expiration date! 👶🏽🤍

But as pregnancy continues beyond 40 weeks, certain risks can increase, which is why your provider may recommend an induction.

You deserve to understand WHY it’s being recommended, the benefits, the risks, and your options before making a decision! 🩺

👇🏽 Would you agree to an induction just because you’re past your due date?

🤍 Follow @NurseCharming! At 6 PM, we’re discussing what happens if you REFUSE your induction!

“Why are you giving me MORE PITOCIN after I already delivered?!” 😩💉

Mama, just because your baby is here doesn’t mean your uterus is done working! 🤰🏽

Pitocin helps your uterus contract after delivery, compressing the blood vessels where your placenta was attached and reducing the risk of excessive bleeding! 🩸

And yes, Pitocin may be given even if you didn’t need it during labor!

👇🏽 Did you receive Pitocin after delivery?

“Why am I passing BLOOD CLOTS after delivery?!” 😳🩸

Mama, some bleeding and small clots can be normal after having a baby!

But passing large clots or experiencing heavy bleeding can be a warning sign of postpartum hemorrhage. 🚨

That’s why your nurse monitors your bleeding and checks how firm your uterus feels after delivery! 🤰🏽🩺

👇🏽 Did you pass blood clots after having your baby?

🤍 Follow @NurseCharming! At 6 PM, we’re talking about why you may receive MORE PITOCIN after delivery!

“Why are you taking my baby for a CHEST X-RAY?!” 😭🩻

Mama, if your newborn is breathing too fast or showing signs of respiratory distress, your provider may order a chest X-ray to get a better look at their lungs! 👶🏽🫁

It can help identify conditions like TTN, pneumonia, or respiratory distress syndrome.

But not every baby with fast breathing needs an X-ray!
