Welcome to BLOODLINES INTERWOVEN.This collaborative commissioning and performance project brings together artists from diverse cultural backgrounds to create new music informed by their shared family histories, which will culminate in a world premiere at the @bigearsfestival . Created by artistic director Kaoru Watanabe, Bloodlines Interwoven employs a novel and intensive storytelling and music-making process to explore and celebrate our different lived experiences and reveal, in the end, the beauty of their intrinsic interconnectedness. The public is invited to become part of the process through a series of work-in-progress showings that will take place on October 1st, January 29th and February 25th in New York City. Featuring Mafer Bandola, Cyro Baptista, Seamus Egan, Gamin, Marika Hughes, Shahzad Ismaily, Sunny Jain, Yuniya Edi Kwon, Kweku Sumbry, Fay Victor, and Kaoru Watanabe. Bloodlines Interwoven is produced by THE OFFICE performing arts + film, with generous support from the Mellon Foundation and the Baryshnikov Arts Center.Learn more at the link in the bio. by @theofficearts

This May, the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra collaborate with one of the world’s most visionary living artists, William Kentridge.Blending collage, puppetry and masked performance, Kentridge’s animated film ‘Oh To Believe in Another World’ conjures a dreamlike “abandoned Soviet museum” alongside Shostakovich’s electrifying Symphony No. 10.An unmissable fusion of music and film, and not one to be missed. Thanks to everyone who joined us for our first performance of Bloodlines Interwoven last night. The room held a kind of closeness, where each gesture, each rhythm, each breath was felt and carried across the ensemble. No two moments settle in the same way. The work keeps shifting, shaped by the people in the room and the energy that gathers. Our final performance is at The Knoxville Museum of Art on Saturday at 12pm. #bigearsfestival #bloodlinesinterwoven by @theofficearts

Gemeinsam. Haltung zeigen. Taking a stand. Every day. After the collective singing in front of the Kulturpalast and the people's chains in Dresden, our memorial concert took place in the concert hall.Dmitri Shostakovich's 10th Symphony and William Kentridge's film “Oh, To Believe in Another World” combined music and images to create a total work of art.Shostakovich's view of a time between conformity, threat, and inner resistance—conducted by Michael Sanderling, who has been closely associated with this work for many years and has recorded all of Shostakovich's symphonies with us.Added to this was Kentridge's collage world: a seemingly abandoned Soviet museum, rooms of memory made of cardboard, history in fragments. An impressive evening, which we repeated the following day.Thank you to everyone who came to the concert hall for this special project.@williamkentridgestudio @theofficearts 📷️ @oliver.killig#DresdnerPhilharmonie by @theofficearts

Last week at Symphony Hall reminded us what can happen when art, community, and shared purpose meet. We’re deeply grateful to @yoyoma, whose vision and generosity continue to guide this work and inspire all of us to keep the flame of our shared humanity alive. And to our extraordinary partners across Massachusetts: thank you. Your creativity, care, and daily commitment to your communities shaped this entire evening.Together, we:• Produced 18 livestream gatherings across the state• Reached over 5,000 people through the livestream gatherings• Welcomed over 1,000 community members to Symphony Hall through free tickets• Partnered with 80+ organizations doing vital work across MA• Filled the lobby with a mural exhibition celebrating local helpers, artists, educators, and organizers• Helped each site create unique pre-show gatherings — from coat drives and ukulele workshops to art-and-science exhibits, storytelling, food sharing, and moreWe are grateful to @yoyoma, to our partners: @celebrityseries and Sound Postings, and to every person who showed up with heart. We’re honored to build this work with you, and excited for the new ideas, new possibilities, and new dreams ahead.Photos by Robert Torres by @theofficearts

Earlier this month in North Adams, MA, our full national cohort of AAW Artists came together for the 2025 AAW Artist Convening, making the trip from Indianapolis, New Orleans, Dearborn, Tucson, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles County. The first in-person AAW gathering of its kind included professional development sessions, collaborative workshops, visits to MASS MoCA and peer-to-peer sharing of artistic practices. This shared space offered meaningful opportunities for collaboration and reciprocal learning and time for reflection and creative rejuvenation. We were so glad to fold our AAW North Adams Alumni into the mix, with mentorship sessions like Luiza Folegatti’s presentation on her AAW Community Project, Mothering in Migration, and a screening with filmmaker Joe Aidonidis to showcase the short films he created with the AAW North Adams cohort followed by a group Q&A on their artistic practices and experiences in the program. A special thanks, too, to Francesca Olsen for the hand-embroidered welcome bags and Desiree Taylor for her inspiring words to root the group at our welcome dinner. We’re thrilled to share a glimpse of this impactful gathering (produced, filmed, and edited by AAW Alum Joe Aidonidis) — and can’t wait to see the momentum from this convening unfold in AAW Artists’ community projects across the country! Updates coming soon. The 2025 AAW Artist Convening in North Adams was made possible by the generous support of the WLS Spencer Foundation and hosted in partnership with the FreshGrass Foundation and the FreshGrass Institute. Special thanks to The Porches Inn and Studio 9 for providing such a beautiful space and for their time and energy in helping bring everyone together. by @theofficearts
