Some gourmands are all about sweetness. This one takes a different approach. 🍒🍎 Five Missed Calls by Alex Lee Fragrances brings together boozy cherry, juicy apple, and a touch of salty lemon, followed by smooth cinnamon and an oak accord that gives the fragrance a drier, woodier finish. My take on this scent? Cherry brandy drizzled over a lemon tart with warm, cinnamon-fried apples. Not overly sweet, not quite your typical gourmand. The oak brings everything back down to earth, adding that warmth and depth that makes the whole composition work. And honestly, I think Alex has a winner here. Russell’s Reserve Extrait just genuinely impressed me. The balance of bright citrus, rich honey, warm amber, and smooth woods is exceptional, with a sweet, almost intoxicating warmth that gives this fragrance real character. As the weather cools, this is exactly the kind of scent I want in my rotation. Sophisticated, rich, and perfect for evenings out when you want something with a little more presence. Credit to @alexleefragrances for the work he continues to put into fragrances like this. The collaboration with @russellreviews_ really came together beautifully, and I think they’ve created something special here. Every great adventure begins with a quest. Mine was for a fragrance that brought together the dark sweetness of raspberry, the elegance of rose, and the unmistakable presence of oud. Something refined, confident, and worthy of a gentleman who appreciates the finer things. Yet the journey proved perilous. So many trails to follow, so many bottles to consider, and no guarantee that the treasure I sought even existed. Then, buried among the familiar names, I stumbled upon an obscure offering from Lattafa. Rouat Al Oud. The notes caught my attention. The price at Beautyhouse.com sealed the fate of my coin purse. And with little more than curiosity to guide me, I took the plunge. When the bottle finally arrived, the gamble had paid off. A striking opening of raspberry and saffron gives way to an elegant rose, accented by patchouli and geranium. Beneath it all lies a darker foundation of oud, warm amber, cedar, and leather. The sweetness of the fruit meets the depth of the woods, creating a fragrance that feels distinguished rather than flashy, masculine without sacrificing elegance. This was the character I had been searching for. Not a fragrance that begs for attention, but one that suggests the wearer has nothing to prove. And the finest part? This little-known treasure came at a fraction of the price I might have expected to pay. Perhaps the greatest discoveries are not found among the most celebrated names, but along the roads less travelled. Rouat Al Oud. A perilous blind buy. I think Rayhaan brought back something a lot of people missed when the 2025 release of DHP by Francis Kurkdjian was made. Rayhaan Obsidian takes me somewhere between classic and modern. The iris comes through beautifully here, giving it that luxurious, powdery character that I think some people missed when the newer interpretation moved in with a more dialed back direction. But what really works for me is what happens underneath it. The leather, woods, oud and ambrette give it a sweet and resinous, modern finish that keeps the fragrance feeling smooth and wearable like it was intended but not so basic and ambery sweet. It still has that almost ultra male dry down but it just feels more in depth as the iris blends in longer and stronger. It’s got that classic luxury with the modern take on elegance. Rayhaan really did a great job with this one. You get that iconic feeling, but at a price that’s much easier to reach for.
