The bit of wedding planning that should actually be enjoyable

Can we make one part of wedding planning feel a little less like admin?

Choosing your wedding cake should be one of the enjoyable bits.

You don’t need to arrive with a perfectly formed idea, a Pinterest board with 147 screenshots or the correct terminology for every tier and texture.

You can tell me about your venue. The flowers you’re considering. Your dress. The colours you’re drawn to. The things you absolutely don’t want.

You can show me a photograph of a lamp, a piece of fabric or an architectural detail and say, “I don’t know why, but I love this.”

That’s enough to start a conversation.

From there, we’ll work out a design that feels considered, personal and right for your wedding, alongside flavours that you’ll genuinely want to eat.

My job isn’t to make you feel like you need to know everything about wedding cakes. It’s to guide you through the process, make the decisions feel easier and create something you’ll be excited to see on your wedding day.

That’s what bespoke should feel like.

Your wedding doesn’t need another thing that looks nice.

It needs things that feel like you.

Maybe that’s a sculptural cake with an unexpected silhouette. Maybe it’s a little drama, a colour you wouldn’t normally associate with a wedding, or a design that makes your guests stop halfway through a conversation to have a closer look.

It doesn’t have to be extravagant. It doesn’t have to be enormous. And it certainly doesn’t have to follow a trend just because it’s everywhere right now.

Some of my favourite designs begin with a couple saying, “We like this, but we don’t want it to look too traditional.”

Good. Let’s see what happens when we take that idea somewhere unexpected.

Your wedding cake can be part of the atmosphere, the styling and the story of the day — not just something wheeled out for a photograph.

Let’s save each other some time.

My wedding cakes probably aren’t for you if you want:

→ an exact copy of a Pinterest cake
→ the cheapest possible option
→ something chosen from a catalogue
→ a cake that could belong to absolutely any wedding

And that’s completely fine.

But if you’re looking for:

→ a cake designed specifically around your wedding
→ sculptural shapes and unexpected details
→ serious attention to texture and finish
→ flavours made properly from scratch
→ someone who will actually think about how the cake works within the whole celebration

Things you should know before trusting me with your wedding cake…

I will probably ask a lot of questions.

Not because I’m nosy — because your cake makes much more sense when I understand the whole wedding.

The venue. The flowers. The dress. The colours. The details you love… and occasionally the things you really don’t.

I love old buildings, beautiful fabrics, architecture, nature and anything that makes me think, “that’s interesting.”

I don’t particularly enjoy making the same cake twice, and I’m definitely not here to copy someone else’s work.

After 11 years as a chef, including four years in Michelin-star kitchens, I’m slightly obsessed with detail. But I’m also very aware that your wedding isn’t a photoshoot.

You need someone organised, communicative and reliable — someone who understands that the cake matters, but that you also have approximately 742 other things to organise.

So that’s me.

Cake designer. Chef. Detail obsessive. Occasional overthinker.

And very happy when a couple says:

“We don’t want a cake that looks like everyone else’s.” 🤍

14 tiers. And a lot more thought behind them than you might think.

For this Saltmarshe Hall wedding, every part of the cake was considered alongside the wider styling — from the height and proportions to the soft folds, florals, colour and texture.

I wanted it to feel romantic and dramatic, but still at home in the beautiful surroundings of Saltmarshe Hall.

For me, that’s what bespoke wedding cake design is about: creating something that doesn’t just look beautiful, but feels like it belongs to your wedding.

And yes, 14 tiers does make quite an entrance.

A few things I wish more couples knew about ordering a wedding cake…

Your Pinterest board doesn’t need to have the whole design figured out. In fact, I quite like it when it doesn’t.

I want to understand your venue, flowers, dress, colours and overall style, then turn all those details into something that feels personal to you.

And when we’re talking about a large or sculptural wedding cake, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes too — structure, transport, set-up and making sure everything arrives exactly as it should.

The finished cake might look effortless.

Getting it there isn’t always quite so effortless. 😉

Let’s get back to it….

Past few weeks, months even i really struggled to keep on top of posting, and was surviving in collaboration’ posts 😂

Busy season, crazy September and that feeling of being ‘speed on to many slices of bread’ as Bilbo Baggins would say.

In other words- life got in a way of social media… which probably, and hopefully is a sign of sanity… not sure how sane am I but shall we just go with that?!

Either way, I have made some plan to keep myself on track.

Thank you for all bookings, messages, enquiries and all@the weddings I was part of this 2026 season… I still have some fabulous wedding in a winter time and i can’t wait to show you all the beauty we have created with my amazing couples!
