There is an extension of perfectionism that causes one to surpass being critical of only self, and hyper-fixate on the fault, failures, and shortcomings of others. What gets ignored in the process is the critic’s hidden desire to be in control, to standout. Being a perfectionist points to a hidden desire to be relevant.
With that, I’d like to caution you in having a critical spirit. It pushes one to believe they are fit to call out their neighbor because they fall short of their standard of “perfection”. It is a “holier-than-thou” mindset, with an unrepentant heart. I, myself have been guilty of it—so much so, that I often forgot to hold space for my neighbor, let alone love them well.

But with caution comes encouragement.

So I’d encourage you,
1. The standard we set for others embodies what we need to yield to the Lord concerning ourselves.
2. Jesus’s feet never get crowded. If unaware, repent.
3. If you want to stand out…step down. Be a servant. (Matthew 23: 11-12)
The encouragement is to let the father take his seat; but more importantly, for us to release control.
