@tressiemcphd posted a whole word on the nonsense of pantylines and that as a whole professional women with deep thoughts and all the responsibilities, we’re supposed to also worry about if someone can see our pantyline. I’m late to the party but feeling the same way about shoes! While I love a good pump, I’ve aged out. I can’t engage in meaningful dialogue while my feet go numb! Listen, I love me a concert and the last year in concerts has been all of the fun! @lizzobeeating and @natsymphonydc was so fun, so unique and like, the lungs Lizzo, the lungs! I was so happy for her and of course loved the QT with some of my favs! by @thepamelafuller

I adored this book! I remember loving Jessica George’s first book also, Maame. I had to dig up my review.

Love by the Book is a love story, a love story of platonic female friendship. I cared so deeply about these characters. I loved how conscientious they were of one another, how they thought about what they would say to one another and what the other might need.

I read this book as part of a bibliotherapy group and we talked about friendship, when it ruptures and how we can repair it. I think friendships fail when they are not reciprocal, when they are taken for granted, when we stop considering what we know about someone as we engage in the friendship, when we get careless.

My big insight was that at this point, I maintain the friendships that are full of ease, the ones where we can imagine what that friend would say about something or send a note when we’re reminded of them. The ones that we can both prioritize to spend time together and the ones who ask about my kids (this is big, how we gonna be friends and you don’t ask about my kids?! I’m over here asking about pets and ish.) The ones that begin right where they left off no matter how long it’s been.

There is also sex work, unexpected pregnancy (not together), work drama, family rupture, a-mazing food descriptions, mental health, specifically depression and what felt a lot like neurodivergence. It had layers!

Stockholm is a beautiful city of water views, whimsical buildings and blooming flowers (in the summer). I was here for our global conference this week and stayed for a few days of exploring. I ate bear, reindeer and moose on a food tour (and Swedish meatballs!), spent a morning at the spa and put in 40,000 steps oscillating between shops and meals. by @thepamelafuller

Lots of controversy around this one. A deeply privileged white woman, generationally wealthy, is cheated on and left by her husband. Not just left, emotionally and physically abandoned. My group chat is disgusted by the privilege and some of the naïveté. It’s hard to feel bad for someone with a four bedroom apt in Tribeca and literal acres of land and a home on Martha’s Vineyard. But wealth doesn’t keep you company and as someone who has not Belle’s level of privilege, but quite a bit of privilege, and has been married for nearly 20 years, it would be painful if my husband took my agency in the course of my own life in this way.

There are books I’ve read where people don’t seem to acknowledge their privilege and I think I find that much more difficult than what I read here, a woman who knew her relative privilege but was also heartbroken.

I felt deep empathy for the writer - I think there were lots of ways she made herself small for her husband and deferred to him in ways that continued to give him control. I appreciated the legacy her writing seemed to break for the line of women she comes from. I appreciate the questions she asked herself throughout the memoir. And I appreciate that this is her story and that her ex would likely tell it differently. But isn’t that true of any experience of two people?

And, I devoured the writing…read this one in just a few sittings.

I always wonder, when someone’s debut is a memoir, what is next for them. Like does something else need to happen for them to write their next book? Eager to see what’s next for this author. by @thepamelafuller

Abby Jimenez romance novels are so reliably heart warming and perfect. She teases the spice, always includes some meaningful commentary on mental health and family dynamics and makes you wonder if you should visit Minnesota. As always, I love love! by @thepamelafuller

Every time I’ve graduated from in the pool to watching, we’ve had another baby! We’re done and it’s bittersweet to watch the Tiniest Fuller age out but today, I’m happily on the sidelines! 😂 I do love to swim with them, but maybe not every time! 🫣🫠😂 by @thepamelafuller
