🌿Handmade goods with vintage style 🌿 Berks County, PA🌿
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
One of my most frequently asked questions is “where do you get your materials?” I never know what to say because the answer is “everywhere” and it has also taken me years of practice in knowing where to look. I thought it would be fun to show you a few of the things I’ve sourced lately and tell you where I found them! Thankfully nothing was a thousand bucks 😜 This haul was sourced from: a box lot from farmers market friend, the craft thrift store, regular thrift store, eBay, a Facebook group, a local fabric store and a Facebook marketplace score from an adorable old lady who decided that after 40+ years she’s probably not going to get around to recovering her chairs. Oh, and I raided my mom’s stash! Thanks mom! by @thepathlessraveled

I know I promised you a post about my shop horror stories and it’s finally here! This new multi-caption feature makes it much easier to post this so scroll on through to hear about the craziest customer experiences I’ve had.

I used to sell a lot of girls skirts in fun kid prints. A dad brought his daughter into my booth and told her to pick out a skirt. She picked out one that was a kid fav: pink donuts! She was obsessed! The dad was horrified an kept trying to talk her out of it. He finally said, not quietly and totally exasperated to his three year old: “you want to wear that IN PUBLIC?!” 🤣

I used to make vintage spool hearts and they were very popular. As the name suggests, they are made from…you guessed it…vintage spools. I had a lady order one as a gift and was absolutely furious that the spools looked vintage and were used. I “ruined” the gift for her family member. 🫠

For a long time I made chaps/vest set for kids. I sold a lot of them on Etsy. Got a message one night from an adult who wanted chaps for…uh…adult purposes. And sent me photo examples and asked if I would make them. I kindly and quickly declined that request.

I had a customer after two and a half YEARS contact me and tell me she had just opened her order and it was defective. She was also insistent that she had bought “a lot” from me. Now I am pretty dang good about remembering customers names and even what they have bought but this lady was not ringing any bells. I looked it up and she had ordered one time. I gently explained to her that 2.5 years is far outside of even the most generous of return windows. She claimed the bow tie hardware was incorrect but sent a photo that was inconclusive. Even then I offered to replace with a different color hardware since the ones she had ordered were discontinued. She would cover return shipping since, you know, it’s 2.5 years later…well she absolutely lost it on me that I wouldn’t refund and sent me a whole slew of messages about how cruel I was and I didn’t understand what she had been through and how I was “laughing at her pain” There was no laughing involved I can assure you, and I continued to be kind and professional. Sometimes you get a chance to make a little girls dream come true and this is one of those projects 🥰 My niece is going to sing Love Story at karaoke and she asked me to make a dress she could wear that was like the album cover. I absolutely love that she was just sure I could make her one and you bet your britches I said yes!! As much as I had a love hate with Joann’s, it was the go to place for special occasion fabrics and I knew I would have to get clever without that option. Everything I used was from my stash or the thrift store! The gold satin was from a thrifted cheongsam dress. I split it at the seams and used just about every bit. The dress is actually a heavily modified version of my sundress style, and I added a faux corset back which I hope will be much more kid friendly than the original. The arm swags I draped on the mannequin using a seltzer can for arm circumference because that’s the way the cool kids do it😂 It was such a fun make and she’s absolutely thrilled with it! ♥️ by @thepathlessraveled

Our first basil harvest = pesto from scratch.

Now we need to see if we can sign up for the @thepasinis cookbook when it comes out so we can tweak our recipe!

Cora’s in a one of a kind blouse from The Path Less Raveled — such exquisite details!

A few of the things I’ve been making lately 🧵 I love the versatility of this skirt pattern, both because the style is great for so many body shapes and also because it’s the perfect palette for vintage textiles! The appliquéd skirt is made from a very old hand stitched coverlet that I think is probably 100 years old or more. The other skirt is the most buttery soft linen with vintage embroidery and the best news?! They have pockets! 🎉 #sewliberated #estuaryskirt by @thepathlessraveled

I cannot overstate how much I nerded out about all the details on this one! This has been a long time in the making. About two years ago, I sent a linen tablecloth to @melaniejuuti with the coat back marked on it. She stitched the pyramid embroidery and collected all the Egypt themed vintage fabrics, buttons and buckles to go with. I will post a photo of the dress pattern in my stories. It is a vintage pattern and it was a pain in the arse but super cute in the end! The buckle is glorious and perfect for being 100 years old 😍 All for a pint sized Egyptian history fan to wear back to school! ❤️ by @thepathlessraveled

My shop is twelve years old now and my goodness what a ride it’s been! It’s interesting to me to look back and see how much my work has changed, but also how much I have loved vintage from the very start! I didn’t start out with a plan to use only vintage fabrics, but over time it evolved into being my “thing” and I love it so much! ❤️ by @thepathlessraveled
