10 > 100 > 10,000 Numbers don’t usually mean much to me. But today, they carry the weight of my lifetime. 10 years ago, I could barely take 10 steps from my bed to the bathroom. Lupus had ravaged my body. I still remember counting each step, each gasp for air, each prayer that I would make it without falling. Years before, I had almost lost my life to a pulmonary embolism. By 2015, I was drowning under 11 prescriptions that dulled my mind and spirit and rarely helped my illness.
Plant medicine saved me. It gave me pieces of myself back like clarity, vitality, hope. But still, walking was a mountain I couldn’t climb. A block or two would leave me exhausted. Then life tested me again. In the last two years, I survived my mother’s passing, my father’s passing, and my own heart attack. I thought my story might end there. But instead, I made it my new beginning. I chose a different way of living, daily water aerobics, long walks with Besito plus a GLP-1 because that shot saved my life. Step by step, I carried myself back into life, during one of the most rockiest times of my life. losing parents is a gut punch you never recover from. Yet here I am, still living, loving and being a menace. #iykyk Two weeks ago, literally two years to the day since I took my first shot, I hit 100 pounds gone from my body. It has been wild to have to learn my body again at this age and at this size. But today, today, I reached the milestone I never thought possible in my lifetime or yours. My phone told me I had walked 10,000 steps?!?!?!?!?! I stopped in my tracks and sat down and cried. Not from pain, which I have done many times in my life, but from sheer joy. Strangers around me didn’t know why I was crying, but I did. I was crying because I am still here. Because I have survived this body. Because I beat the health odds that have been against me for the last 20 years. Because I can now walk through cities, into huge libraries, down markets, across streets I had never dared to dream of. Ten years. One hundred pounds. Ten thousand steps. A life I almost lost is now a life I get to live.
