Introducing: Vera L. Melo
@theperuvian_

Vera L. Melo is an artist–researcher working across drawing, installation, and spatial inquiry. Her practice investigates how architecture stores memory and how perception emerges through resonance, movement, and duration. Through field drawing, mirrored structures, and geometric form, she explores the relationships between body, place, and collective memory, bringing together sacred geometry, phenomenology, and architectural observation to reveal the unseen dimensions of inhabited space.

Our research students baked their research! 🍰

Last term our PhD and MRes students took part in a special networking event that showed off their baking skills as well as their research practice when our baker/researchers turned their PhD topics into edible masterpieces 🧁💯

Taking part were Rizpah Amadasun (PhD, School of Communication), Jinsun Lee (PhD, School of Design), Stuart Lee (PhD, School of Arts & Humanities) and Vera Melo (MRes RCA).

Participants explained how their creations encapsulated their research, and they were judged by our three judges: Prof Hala Mansour, Prof Teal Triggs and Simon Thompson. This was followed by a social in which guests were invited to eat their creations 😋

Rizpah Amadasun took the 1st prize for her 'Bird Cage and Rotating Cakes' that evoked her research on building inclusive spaces and the misogynoir microaggressions black British women experience.

Massive congratulations to all our star bakers! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Dear Jaime Victor Melo,

I know this is not anywhere close to all the great things you did in forestry research, natural resources preservation, and dendrology; but this is my ode to you. Made within a community of collaboration and wisdom.
Wherever you are, your family misses you dearly. I can't say "rest in peace" because I need you to look after us.

With love,
Your daughter Vera Lucia. taken in Royal College of Art by @theperuvian_
