Daydreaming about our time spent on the magical grounds of the @conestogahouseandgardens a few weeks ago. In 1815, Benjamin Hershey built the home as a main stone house for their farm and served as the primary residence for the Hershey Family (yes, Hershey Chocolate family). Later in the century, it served as a tavern and inn for travelers headed west. In 1927 the farm house was purchased by James Steinman and transformed into a colonial revival with symmetrical architecture and terraces overlooking the gardens (our favorite) Today the estate sits on 20 acres and is beloved for its influences from English country estates, Italian renaissance gardens, and American estate gardens.
