Daniel began with a poem from the time of COVID: Sanitized Killings Behind Glass Walls. A chilling image of how we are protected from witnessing the butchery and atrocities inflicted on the less privileged, and how easily apathy settles behind the curtains of privilege. It shook the whole room.

Then, just as we were still recovering, he flipped the script and wooed us with a โ€˜badโ€™ love poem inspired by forlorn lover boys in poetry circles, titled I Want to Love You Like You Do. And it was nothing remotely close to what we expected, unlike a love poem, and yet so much like one should be. As always, he blew our minds.

Our favourite lines: I want to kiss like you do, when no one questions which lips belong to which God, which hand belongs to what caste.

Anu's first poem came with a trigger warning: death and violence. It ripped us apart in ways only those in the room could feel. It ended with: I often picture you dead, that is how I continue living. And we were swept away by the tide of his words.

His second poem, titled Queer Violence, was dedicated to the Trans Act Amendment Bill. His words have stayed with us: I am standing my ground tonight, wounded in bloody clothes, frozen yet on fire, trembling in rage, ready to fight with my bare teethโ€ฆ

This was his first ever performance, and we are so glad the universe and our little spot slot box chose him! At the end of his set, we knew by @thepixieintherain

The sand said, "Melt your feet into me and let go of your tangled thought or you'll lose your footing."
The waves said, "Listen to the voices you hear from the true nature of those around you or you'll lose your mind."
The breeze said, "Stay, even if you drift from the foamy water to the salty air, you can still carry the wind in your hair."
The sea said, "Look beyond the horizon so you don't forget how to look for hope."
The sky said, "Stretch far and wide and keep going till you find the sea again. Because you're a beach baby. You can't stray far from home."

I turned around and the man just said, "She sells sea shells on the sea shore๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚"

So, who should I listen to?

As a reader, I agree with most of my bookish friends who told me that this book is heart warming, and adorable. Also, I love fiction that draws parallels from reality/ talks about real world issues in metaphorical ways, hinting at conflicts we see everyday in a more magical sense.ย โœจโœจ

Now, as a writer, this book made realize that the initial introductory section, or the world building, plays such a huge role in shining a light on the main plot of the book. Although the characters are the hero of this story, the context build up of the systems of governance and laws of their world highlighted in the MC's workplace and lifestyle adds layers of complexity to how we perceive the rest of the story. Even though this kind of corporate surveilance and regulations is something we live with and see on the daily, it was important to establish the very stressful and colourless life of the MC to paint a true picture of all the colours that enter his life.ย ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŒŠ

One of the major roadblocks I'm facing with writing my own stories is that I'm getting carried away with the main escapade section of my story without establishing the initial ground reality of my charcter. But without the base, where will this plane take off from?ย โ˜„๏ธโ˜„๏ธ by @thepixieintherain

To me, the shape of joy comes in shades of green ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒณ and blue ๐ŸŒ… ๐Ÿž๏ธ

You'd never guess what you'll find out there unless you step out and away from the theatres and shops.
I know it's hard to believe but there are places where you can still hang out without having to buy something in this capitalist society. taken in Kasavanahalli Lake by @thepixieintherain

There are very specific triggers for very specific memories. Somehow, this art room led me back to 2014 in a dusty room where we interpreted our city in different ways while having absolutely no idea what we were doing. It was the start to a journey of learning about abstraction and context and urban narratives in different lenses and as all good things go, we eventually just swapped it for the sake of pessimistic realism. Life (read bored adults who have given up) often forces you to focus on the real world, and forget about where you want to go. But before we made that leap, that's exactly where we were, just with a lot more hope.

Being an adult is like shedding off layers of hope you held for different aspects of the world. And then, art reminds you, there's a different way, what you were looking for is still here.... taken in Kochi-Muziris Biennale by @thepixieintherain

Itโ€™s been a year of experimenting with new dishes ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿคโค๏ธ๐Ÿช๐ŸŽ‚๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿฅง and thereโ€™s so many more I want to try!!!
Baking really added that element of whimsy to my days โœจand also that chocolaty aroma to my house ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ’ฏWould totally recommend this to anyone who wants to try something new, work with their hands and reduce screen time. Plus you get to eat delicious desserts! Itโ€™s a win win situation ๐Ÿ˜Œ by @thepixieintherain
