Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Rec Centre 📍100 Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Ln, North York TORONTO ACCESS Paid Green P parking in building ($3/hr) Some free street parking - read the signs or other free parking lots in the area (use at your own risk) Steps fr. Bessarion TTC Stn 🛝 Check Park & Rec Website for weekly drop in hours (sessions are 1.5hrs) 🛝 Sign in w/ the desk on the 3rd floor 🛝 Head to the end of the hall Shoes removed, socks req. (there are cubbies/hooks) AMENITIES ☁️ A 2 level house (top level has a lookout & air cannons to shoot the clouds; the bottom level has a climbing tunnel, building bricks & a magnetic shape board) ☁️ High/Low 5 animal wall jump ☁️ Gravity Bar ☁️ 2 Stilt Stations ☁️ DIY Ball Coaster ☁️ Roller Slide ☁️ Soft Play cushions The ground is a soft rubber material There are beautifully painted murals. I also found that there were plaques on the walls to give prompts on how to play at each station & the recommended age & user limit EXPERIENCE This is a cute little space. I like the idea that all the equipment tries to involve kids in open movement, problem solving & creative play. I did think that the space was better geared towards kids 4/5+ vs toddlers/babies (there are a few things toddler may enjoy) Because it is new, I imagine it will be busy over the summer My kids stayed for 75mins & enjoyed it esp. the stilts, roller slide & ball coaster but I did see kids get bored & leave before the time limit (most were having fun) . There were about a dozen other kids when we went & it didn’t feel super crowded MORE INFO ⭐️ The wooden floor can be slippery, I saw a few kids wipe out going fr. the grippy rubber floor to the smooth wood trying to get to the stairs of the house ⭐️ Washrooms are outside the area ⭐️ Some ledge seating (remove shoes to sit there) & a small row of benches ⭐️ No food/drink ⭐️ They will have more info on party rental in August OVERALL This is a cute community indoor playspace. I’m not sure I’d recommend it as a destination but if you live in the area or are passing through it’s a great option taken in North York , Toronto , Canada by @theplaceswewillremember

READ THIS⬇️ Follow @theplaceswewillremember for family friendly activities, travel & events in Toronto + beyond Last year, we took @viarailcanada using the Canada Strong Pass & we did it again! BUT IS IT WORTH IT? BOOKING/$ The @viarailcanada site is easy to navigate. Valid until Sept 7, kids (17 & under) ride free w/ an accompanying adult, on Escape & Economy fares (the difference b/w the 2 fares is what is refundable & seat selection) We did book & travel in June. In peak summer, it may be harder to find seats esp. together We also booked a one-way ticket In terms of an adult fare, fr. Ottawa (+tax) we paid ~$125 for the first train of the day. This was slightly pricier than last year fr. Toronto to Ottawa in Aug THE RIDE Like last year it was pretty comfortable. This year there was no delay & it was emptier out of Ottawa & started to get full closer to Toronto—we had our quad table (which we choose for more space) to ourselves until the last hr Staff didn’t go as above & beyond as our prev trip but not a deal breaker (I.e. we didn’t get any activity books like last year) The washrooms are clean, the A/C works, & there are outlets. The wifi is spotty (bring activities) & they do have food for $ but it is pricey (I spent $20 on 2 banana breads & 2 bags of chips) THE VERDICT ⭐️ If you have babies & toddlers, this may be a harder trip to do solo esp. if a delay happens. For school aged kids, this is a cool & comfortable experience even if solo parenting ⭐️ If you’ve never taken the train, don’t have a car/like driving or are going solo w/ kids this is an alternative. You don’t have much mental load aside fr. bring food/drink & activities. Public transit fr. The stations is pretty convenient ⭐️ If you have a car or more than 1 adult or a round trip , you might find cost-wise that is more convenient to drive (A tank of gas is less one way fr. Toronto than a ticket & even more cost effective w/ an electric car). That said you’ll have to factor in parking OVERALL My kids have been super into trains (thanks to @downielive ) & so this was really all about the experience. If you’ve never been on @viarailcanada this is worth trying taken in Ottawa Canada by @theplaceswewillremember

And it is an added bonus when those hidden gems are parent owned TINO’S @tinos.toronto 📍2984 Dundas St W, Toronto T-Th 12-8 Fr/Sa 12-9 Su/M 12-7 ACCESS/PARKING Some street parking. TTC bus accessible ABOUT TINO’S I got to meet Valerie, a mom & owner of the shop. Named after her 4 year old son, it brings not just a little bit of Venezuelan street food to the city but also quality hot dogs w/ unique toppings made with care PRICES Most items are under $10 making it an affordable option to bring your family FOOD The menu has some signature dogs on homemade buns but you can always make your own. We got 🌭 Tinos (From Venezuela) I liked that the coleslaw was grated & the potato stick gave an added crunch. I also appreciate a good sized snappy dog too $8.99 🌭Kiddo Tino’s It comes w/ ketchup but the kiddo just wanted it plain. It was perfect for little appetites $5 🌭Waffle fries These were actually so so good. Well fried, well seasoned. I was fighting my kid for the last piece $6 🌭Tino’s Burger A very decent and filling burger $13.50 🌭Tres Leches I can’t pass up dessert especially when it’s homemade. A good sized portion. Moist, sweet & cinnamon-y $7.50 For drinks, we had a Jarritos but I’d try their homemade juice (sugar cane, tamarind) EXPERIENCE I really enjoyed @tinos.toronto & so did the youngest kiddo. The staff were friendly & the quality was good. Valerie, the owner was a gem. The food isn’t instantaneous but you are not waiting long & portion are pretty decent. My kid liked the platform seats but the tables are small so if its summer you may want to sit on their patio OVERALL If you’re looking for a unique hot dog in the city, a casual family friendly place or just a quality affordable meal, this it! This was one suggested by a follower (thanks!) JEAN AUGUSTINE PLAYGROUND 📍101 Westmount Blvd, Thornhill ACCESS/PARKING Street parking off Westmount Blvd (the closest) There is a high school nearby w/ a parking lot but it is a bit of a walk FOOD Options within driving distance AMENTIES The park has ⭐️ 3 Zipline Bays (2 + an assisted swing one) ⭐️ Tot Structure w/ slide ⭐️ 2 climbing structures ⭐️ a Large play structure w/ a large yellow multi person slide & a smaller one ⭐️ Swings & spinners There’s not much shade over the playground but there is shade and plenty of benches nearby. I did not see any washrooms or water fountains but there is a baseball diamond. The ground is wood chips EXPERIENCE The zip lines alone were the draw to this park. We went on a weekday summer evening & there was only a small handful of kids & my kid rode the zip line to his heart’s content. The big yellow slide while large & tall is quite slow but for younger kids it’s hard to get up to as you have to use a twisted ladder or ropes to get up OVERALL It’s not a bad park as it will provide some good entertainment but it’s also doesn’t hit top 5 best parks for us either. If you want a zip line with minimal wait, this is a good park to hit up taken in Thornhill, Ontario by @theplaceswewillremember

And who doesn’t love a good zipline swing? Here are 5 we have been to (+ 2 bonus ones) in Toronto & York Region GECO PARK 📍100 Cleanside Rd, Scarborough Toronto’s only swing zipline The highlight is the swing but it can break frequently. Street parking & a small play structure. Some shaded benches BIIDAASIGE PARK 📍51 Commissioners St, Toronto 2 ziplines, one a little longer than the other A must-visit destination park. Washrooms, free parking, lots of other play areas, trails & even a BBQ restaurant across the street MEANDER PARK 📍Alpaca Dr, Richmond Hill 1 Zipline at the top of a slope. For ziplines, it’s a pretty good one & one of our local faves True to its names, this park has a main play structure and then equipment to “meander” around. Free street parking HARMONY PARK 📍209 Rizal Ave, Markham 1 zipline at the play structure This is a pretty packed local park w/ a shaded picnic area, sandbox, fields & play structure JEAN AUGUSTINE PARK 📍101 Westmount Blvd, Thornhill One of the only local parks I’ve seen w/ 3 zipline bays (2 regular & 1 assisted swing) There’s a great large yellow slide (a bit hard to get to for young kids) but lots of shaded benches. Free Street Parking There are likely more but these are the ones we’ve been to. The main entrance is facing Sheppard (door at glass enclosure) Please check hours on IG as these can change High chairs & change tables available MENU I don’t know the full menu but it was shared everything server plus a few grilled dishes will be on the menu. @nam_6ix really tries to focus on it’s family roots w/ flavours from all around Vietnam’s bringing unique flavours to diners Here’s what we tried (see carousel for a more indepth about each dish) BANH CUON - Steamed Rice Rolls w/ pork and mushrooms NAM CHICKEN WINGS - Do not miss out on these CUA BA NGOAI - Grandma’s Crab Recipe CHA CA LA VONG - Turmeric Fish with Dill and Scallions served w/ Vermicelli COM GIA DINH - Tamarind Soup with Rice, Morning Glory, and Braised Pork HAI DAN XIAO ME - Stirfried Clams, Shrimp, Squid, Scallops in a Tamarind Sauce THE CENTRAL VIETNAM TRIO (Banh It Ram, Banh Beo, Banh KHOT) CHE (DESSERT) - Usually a soup dessert SPACE The space itself is big & I personally am really excited a into this because it means intergenerational meals and bringing families and groups together EXPERIENCE As I was invited for a preview, I can’t comment on price or service but I do expect there to be large crowds and waits in the first few weeks. I would encourage patience as the restaurant finds its groove & if you don’t like crowds, maybe wait to visit a couple weeks in OVERALL I’m really excited to see more Vietnamese Dishes showcase in the city beyond the usual offerings. It just so happens that the family behind @electricpiggy_viahe @banhmi_nana and @nam2vietnameserestaurant are opening their first Vietnamese Restaurant in Toronto on July 24 with a focus on getting back to their family roots Nam 6 @nam_6ix 📍2111 Sheppard Ave E, North York, Toronto Stepping inside, you’ll may feel confused—it doesn’t feel like a Vietnamese restaurant with Vietnamese street food vibes. Instead you’ll feel transported to someone’s house — homey wooden tables and chairs you’d see at your grandparents house, a bookshelf full of European inspired tchotkes and books, lace tablecloths and window drapings reminiscent of your own childhood at Grandma’s. An open kitchen where you can see what’s being made. But that’s intentional because you’re being brought into someone else’s family memories. I was honoured to be invited to a preview of the menu and here’s my thoughts Invited I’ll be sharinga reel later today with some more technical information so check there for more info GRAND OPENING JULY 24 Tables will get a free order of wings Draws for $100 Gift Cards Free soft serve for kids Free dessert 10% off From July 25- Sept 1 BANH CUON - Steamed Rice Rolls w/ pork and mushrooms These were simple and well made. The rolls were soft but not overly sticky, the filling was just enough that it felt full when you added the accompaniments. Add chilli if you want a kick to the fish sauce. I’d come back for these especially because my kid ate them NAM CHICKEN WINGS If you’ve never tried these, these will become a quick favourite for everyone. Very crispy, sweet but not sticky outside, these are well cooked and well loved. There is a lemon/vinegar dipping sauce but truthfully we all ate these as is. If you get one thing, you cannot go wrong with these CUA BA NGOAI - Grandma’s Crab Recipe I love when restaurants bring you into their home and share a bit about their story.
