Being a part of the Volunteer Medical Team at the 130th Boston Marathon was an incredible experience on many levels.

As a native Bostonian, it was an honor to play a small part in an event that captivates the city and projects Boston to the world.

I was living in Watertown during the 2013 bombing and subsequent lockdown. I had friends running and racing that day. The boat where one of the brothers was captured was a few houses down from my childhood best friend. The impact of that day and BOSTON STRONG response, showcased the cities resiliency and camaraderie. The medical response that day was exceptional and saved many lives.

It was an honor to join that legacy this year. The energy amongst the medical team was electric from the start. Highly organized, inter disciplinary and collaborative the crews worked to serve the runners from around the world.

The atmosphere in the tent was focused, confident and full of kindness and grace towards the athletes who entered its walls. Our energy was directed in attending to the person in front of us, while there was a sub-conscious awareness of the throngs of approximately 30,000 runners who were passing.

What a wonderful way to give back and grateful for the opportunity. Still letting this one settle and feel as though I will be for a while.

Thank you to the Boston Athletic Association and most importantly to all of the runners and supporters who make this day possible!

Decline Triceps Extension

Good option to connect shoulder with core, while increasing triceps capacity.

I like these because they are usually well tolerated early in shoulder rehab and start to develop an awareness in the upper extremity from hand to shoulder similar to how we would build from ankle to hip when working with the legs.

Typically dose 3 sets of 12ish reps chasing the burn.

Shout out to @jwayperformance for the awesome demo and @davidgreyrehab for the inspo!

SHOULDER SEMINAR @secondwinddc

Awesome time sharing shoulder strategies for performance and pain at Second Wind Training last week!

We had an active session exploring movements that hammer protraction, scapular/spinal mobility and bring the smoke for the shoulders.

Amazing gym and amazing community!

Grateful for the opportunity! taken in Second Wind Training by @theplayersphysio

1/2 Kneeling Med Ball Rotations:
Staying active the whole time
Down and In hold 5s
Up and Out hold 5s

I’ve found a heavier ball works best here (using 30lb in video)

Big Med Ball Circles
Bend in knees
Draw giant circles through bending and arching
Light enough to move, but heavy enough to feel some work (I used a 10lb ball)

Great way to start the day and hit all planes of your spine! by @theplayersphysio

Took a 30+ point loss in my first men’s league game back since my shoulder surgery in 2024.

Along with navigating my personal rust and jitters, our team gave up a stretch of fast break points that blew the game open.

Added this conditioning circuit to my workout today to build the base and help get back on defense.

Went through 10 rounds of 20s sprint/40s walk then into four rounds:

2:1 box jumps x 20

MB Slam to Rotational Toss x 6 each side

Active rest dribbling x 1

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Partial range heel raise reps for achilles tendinopathy.

Athlete will be able to perform with additional weight than they could otherwise do going through full motion.

Additional load benefits the tendon, plus potential gastrocnemius hypertrophy effect.

This set up is a great option for folks without a calf raise machine and/or leg press.

When working from deficit may want to consider insertional vs. mid-point of tendon symptoms as I will typically build a base working isometrics from neutral to 30deg heel off the ground in my insertional folks then use this as a method to introduce stretch as their capacity improves.

Any questions? Hit me up!
Have fun and have at it!

While I’ve been a fan of single leg wall sits for years, the @davidgreyrehab episode of the @coachemuppodcast deepened my understanding of this stellar quad burner.

While I love greasing the knee wheels with hip and ham work, improving quadriceps strength will increase that athletes capacity and prepare them for the forces involved in deceleration and landing from jumps.

I love movements that bullseye the target and the single leg wall sit is a great one to start that day.

Great being able scale this movement based on training goal that day (pain relief vs strength) and the alternating press and hold helps athletes get the most from this position.

Yesterday, I was short on time so took a bunch of sets of 5 to work up to 2 sets of a heavy 3 at 360lbs (hex bar is 60lbs), then went into a 3 x 3 vertical jump to broad jump.

I love how jumps feel after a heavy lift and often superset these exercises.

I’ve found these touches of big multi-joint movements at high intensities have been a great way to keep progressing, even given a 20 minute work window. by @theplayersphysio

SPLIT SQUAT MB HIP TOSS

Great mix of power and stability

I like working the turn on + turn off demand, where I cue to put the ball through the wall then have the athlete work to stop on a dime, catching the ball at chest height.

Ball should be heavy enough to feel like they are doing something, but light enough to move fast.

Try:
3 x 6 each side

FUN AF CORE!

Been loving these isolated core movements from @zack_zillner ‘s Full Court Press 365 program.

For years I have advocated most folks not do their own programming as working with a strength coach will get you out of your comfort zone, expose areas of need and increase your movement library.

I started following the Full Court Press 365 program to add variation to my training and increase my offerings to my clients.

The program has checked all of those boxes and I have been having a blast working through each session.

Give these a try and hit me up to let me know what you think!
