POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
THE MUGSHOTS Before you know a single thing about them, your mind is already writing stories. He looks stubborn. He looks kind. He looks like he's never lost a fight. Thirteen faces. Zero context. That's the thing about a photograph — it gives you confidence without giving you the full picture. It freezes one fraction of a second and convinces you it has captured an entire person. It says here he is. No. Here he was. For a moment. It can't tell you who called him an hour earlier. Whether he slept. Whether he's been pretending not to miss someone. The frame is honest. It is simply incomplete. Outside the frame are fathers who only knew affection as provision. Boys who inherited silence the way other people inherit cheekbones. Words that sounded harmless until they'd been repeated for years. Be strong. Handle it. You'll be fine. A remarkable thing happens when a boy hears those words enough. He stops translating pain into language. He translates it into endurance. And endurance photographs exceptionally well. Long before any law could accuse these men of anything, the world already had. Too emotional. Too quiet. Too weak. Too proud. So they learn the script. I'm okay. It's nothing. I'll figure it out. Until one day they believe it too. Maybe strength doesn't look unbreakable. Maybe it looks like attending lectures and replying to messages and laughing at the right moments and going home and doing it again. Maybe the real crime is believing a life can be understood from the front of a face. That a portrait can replace a conversation. That composure is proof of peace. We thought we were looking at thirteen men. Maybe they were looking back at us all along. Tinted Windows is a space for the things that don't always make it into the frame. . . . #MensMentalHealth #TintedWindows #Lagos #photography #mentalhealth BlackMen portrait storytelling mugshot writingcommunity by @thepolyphonicgenius_

Another night, another cleanse of the iPhone Xs camera, another click and another clearing of storage to make it work, but one thing that can never die is DXRA's love for the fast car life, although the cars are "not that fast", but he still makes it work. Accompanied by the multifaceted POLYPHONIA, the process becomes easier, but harder to get that quality shot due to the "speed" of the cars, but they still make it gel. FAVELA 2? the answer might not come soon..... 2025, fimidxra X polyphonia. 📸: @lvmide ✍️: @lvmide x @thepolyphonicgenius_ by @thepolyphonicgenius_

Go Big or Go Home Some things were never meant to stay small. Once cozy, now colossal—because why not? Soft, pink, and a little overconfident, it stands proudly, like it just realized it’s the main character. Maybe it’s art, maybe it’s a fashion emergency. Either way, it’s here, it’s huge, and it’s not taking a step back. Who said comfort can’t make a statement? 📸: @lvmide & @thelifeof_goodnews ✍🏾: @thepolyphonicgenius_ by @thepolyphonicgenius_

The drum speaks. Do you hear it? 🥁🔥 From Fela to Amapiano, from ancient rhythms to global anthems—African beats have traveled far and wide. My latest Substack post dives deep into the power of the drum and its timeless pulse. Hit the link in my bio & let the rhythm take you there! 🌍🎶 #ThePulseThatRidesTheWind #AfricanMusic #drumlanguage #drums #africandrums #etmensah #tonyallendrummer #fela #felakuti #substacknewsletter #substack #africandrumsfestival #afrobeats A vintage black-and-white photograph of a group of African drummers and musicians standing behind an array of traditional drums. They wear cultural attire, some with fabric draped around their waists and others with beaded accessories. The drums vary in shape and size, some with hollow centers and others with rounded bodies, showing signs of use. The image captures the essence of African musical heritage, with the presence of these instruments symbolizing the deep-rooted storytelling and rhythmic traditions passed down through generations. Overlayed on the image is the title: 'THE PULSE THAT RIDES THE WIND – Tracing the Soul of Africa Through the Language of Drums.' taken in Polyphonia by @thepolyphonicgenius_
