We used to wonder what we’d miss about snowboarding without kids…turns out not much!!

20 years ago Mum (Brigitte) and Dad (Sammy) fell in love while working together at Thredbo. 🥰And we would snowboard together all the time.

And over those 20 years somehow thru jet lag, battles, mortgages,3 kids, sleepless nights, health issues, financial issues etc. We still love to snowboard together. But now we have our crew.

Air support has arrived!

A low flying RAAF Boeing C17a (correct me if I’m wrong) flies overhead of the Summit Chair, Blue Cow. A cool thing to see when you’re out snowboarding with the family.

Went Snowboarding. Got distracted.

Snow angels, snowball fights, questionable dancing, yeti slaying and professional-level seal sliding. Just another day at the snow. 😂❄️

The snow brings out the inner child in adults and grows creativity in children.

🏂❤️ Want your kids to love snowboarding as much as you do? Here’s how to grow the stoke without killing the fun! ❄️👇

1️⃣ Make FUN the priority.
Snowball fights, snow angels, family challenges and chairlift games. It doesn’t have to be all about riding!

2️⃣ Let them progress at their own pace.
Every kid is different. Celebrate the little wins and don’t compare their progress to anyone else’s.

3️⃣ Know when to call it a day.
Finish on a high before tired legs, cold fingers and hunger turn everyone into tiny (or not-so-tiny) monsters. 😂

4️⃣ Follow THEIR lead sometimes.
Want to ride the same run 15 times? Build a jump? Spend 20 minutes sliding on their bums? Let them have a say!

5️⃣ Make the whole experience special.
Hot chocolates, lollies, mountain adventures, family traditions and memories that go beyond the snowboarding itself.

6️⃣ Encourage, don’t pressure.
Be their biggest cheerleader, not their full-time coach. Sometimes the best thing you can do is just ride alongside them.

7️⃣ Lead by example.
Let them see YOUR stoke! Laugh at your falls, try new things and show them that snowboarding is about enjoying the journey, not being perfect.

❤️ The goal isn’t to raise the best snowboarder on the mountain. It’s to raise kids who can’t wait to get back on it.

And remember… sometimes bribery with hot chocolate or sour gummies is perfectly acceptable parenting. ☕️😂

Let’s face it, Thredbo has the vibes. Village feel, great apres and the snowboarding is definitely more straight up and down. Mini half pipe and fun runs make it an awesome Aussie Resort.

Honestly a busy weekend rocking up to the Perisher car park can feel chaotic to say the least and if you’re not in the Car Park by 8:30am, good luck getting in there at all. But Ski Tube is a game changer. That clunky train saves us every time, so if you’re going Perisher, get the SkiTube upgrade.

Perisher also holds snow longer if there’s a low snow winter like 2026.

So for us, even though Thredbo has a massive piece of our hearts, we’ll be back at PERISHER. We love Blue Cow, the isolation of Guthega and a good day at Smiggens can be super fun as well. Combined with the amazing value of you can get overseas to an epic resort, that seals the deal.

Is it all worth it?💰💵🤑

Let’s face it. It’s costs a lot to go to the snow in Australia and anywhere for that matter. But here’s why we love snowboarding in Australia:

1. No flights - It’s just a short road trip and we can be sliding. More days because we can do weekends.🚘🧳

2. Our backyard mountains - always feels homely riding in Australia for us. ❄️🏔️

3. Snow gums- the trees in Australia are very unique, as well as the fauna(animals).🪾🦘

4. The terrain- we may not have the alps but we do have a lot of accessible terrain in multiple resorts. 🏂

Mum & Dad did you fall over much? 🤕🩹while learning to snowboard??

Yes. Unfortunately snow sports come with a few Boo boos 👻 and it takes a lot of perserverence to progress and get good. Snowboarding like most great things take a lot of practice, repetition and sometimes falls.

Those great snow athletes and anyone who rides down the mountain well has definitely had their fair share of decent falls.

After a good fall. We take a minute to make sure nothings really hurt and then shake it off. But let’s face a good fall can knock the wind out your sails.⛵️
