I’m James 👋

This project has been an obsession of mine ever since I challenged myself to design and build a functional watch using a 3D printer.

In January 2024, I completed my first fully functional watch, I knew there must be others out there who also want to build these so I launched my website, to document my builds and sell the 3D printer files.

Since, there has been over 100 downloads of the V1 model and a couple of major updates including miyota quartz capability and an improved model design for better printing.

I have lots of ideas that I’m progressing so stay tuned for those! I’m not giving away and spoilers but this project is going to extend from watch cases.

ChronoHackers has been sitting dormant for nearly two years, and it’s finally time to do something with it.

The original plan was a podcast. I wanted to sit down with the makers, modders and tinkerers building genuinely interesting watches and get into how they actually do it. Good idea on paper. In practice it needed far more time than I could give it, so it quietly stalled.

So I’m changing tack. ChronoHackers is becoming a blog.

Instead of interviews I couldn’t keep up with, it’ll be a place where I write up the watch projects that catch my eye. DIY builds, clever mods, 3D printed cases, custom movements, the weird and the wonderful. The stuff I find genuinely interesting, covered properly.

Same name, same curiosity, just a format I can actually sustain.

More soon.

3D printing watches is much easier than you think.

This is the Aries Chrono, an easy to build chronograph based on very standard and fairly cheap parts.

Infinitely customisable and forever repairable (wink wink Swatch)
