POSTS STORIES REELS

It’s official 🎉💃🏾

I’ve been named a 2026 Ford Foundation Global Fellow, joining over 150 fellows worldwide.

I do many things. And for a long time, I’ve been asked to choose between filmmaking or advocacy, but my life’s work has always lived in the in-between, at the intersection of art, advocacy, and storytelling.

I wear many hats, and through the @dorothynjemanzefoundation , I sit with survivors, build programs, and push for systems that actually respond to and prevent violence, while through @fembudco , I hold space for stories and equip women and girls with the tools to imagine differently.

At its core, both storytelling and justice demand disruption. Both feminism and advocacy invite us to imagine new worlds. I do this work with one simple goal: To uproot injustice.

I know I am in good company with people who are building, resisting, imagining, and refusing the world as it is, and I am looking forward to learning with my peers and to dismantling inequality from the ground up, patiently, collectively, with care.

World Suicide Prevention Day 🎗️

I made Dying is Hard to Do because it was personal. For years, I have lived with depression and active suicide ideation. I was struggling deeply, but not many people knew.

This poster is an alternative design by @kaizenkreativ_ simple, raw, and honest.

It reminds me of the beauty that has emerged since I began allowing space for the hard parts, while honoring all the waves that come with healing.

The opposite of depression is not joy. It is presence. It is being here.

My life now feels like a dream come true, and I get to live in it each day (especially on the hard days).

I take life in little doses, with a broken heart still learning to mend. But as Leonard Cohen said, “the crack is where the light comes in,” right?

Today is a battle for me, and I honor that. If you are struggling, please know you’re not alone.
Please Create a safe space for someone today.
Check in with a friend. And most importantly, take care of yourself 💛💛💛

Healing is not linear, but life? Your life? It is so worth holding on to.

I’m a Film Independent Fellow under the Global Media Maker LA Residency!!!

When I received this news in March, I was at a low point in my career and this affirmed and reminded me that I was on the right path.

I’ve always been in deep love with Film Independent since @Ava’s 2013 Keynote Address during the Film Independent Forum that has been a guide for me. As a girl from Nollywood watching Hollywood movies and dreaming that someday I’d be here and I’m here. What a blessing 🥹🤍🤍

My first independent feature film as Writer and Director, Baby Girl has been accepted into the directing track section of the Global Media Makers Film Independent LA Residency Program.

For the last one week, I’ve had intensive filmmaking sessions, industry sessions, workshops, one-on-one meetings with US industry professionals and networking opportunities.

Super excited to be among the cool Folks who are Film Independent Fellows 🥱🥱🤍💃🥺

Super grateful to @usinnigeria and @filmindependent.

My beautiful baby 🥹❤️

@the_nengiyouheardabout_ I love you in every lifetime. In every universe, in every version of us, I would still choose you as my sister. 🥹❤️

You are genuinely the coolest, flyest, sweetest, kindest girl ever, and I hope you know just how deeply loved you are. I am so ridiculously proud of you that I changed my X name to “Nengi’s sister” 😂💛💛 I am Nengi’s sister and I wear that title with SO much pride.

Watching you grow into the beautiful woman you are has been such a gift. I pray this new year is gentle with you, full of joy, laughter, answered prayers, beautiful opportunities and all the good things your heart deserves.

May you always know that you have me. Always. In every season, in every lifetime.

Happy birthday, my baby. 🥹❤️ I love you more than words can ever properly say. Now go and continue being the coolest girl alive. 😭😂💛💛🎉🎉🎉 by @thepriyediri

Stories shape us. Stories shape culture. Stories can even shape power.

But what stories are being told about Africa, our communities, and our people today?

"Because these people had the courage to use language in naming their feelings, to leverage language and not shy away from it. There's a movement that builds around all of that. And movements are how we affect change.”

— Tawakalit Kareem

In our latest Critical Consciousness Pop-Up conversation held in Lagos, Tawakalit Kareem- @tawakalit.k in conversation with fellow Nigerian feminists Boluwatito Sanusi - @titosdreamworld , Priye Diri - @thepriyediri and Oluwatunmise Oluyede - @pricelessoluwatunmise speaks on how critical it is to let ourselves feel, name these feelings in the public space and use this as a ground for movement building.
