A little map of where I’m heading. 🗺️

I’ve been thinking about how I want to approach this next stage of TheQuasar, and I realised I don’t really want to turn it into a strict content plan.

I’d rather build something that can grow over time. 🌱

So these are some of the creative threads I’ll be exploring along the way:

Some will become finished pieces. Others will probably change direction. And some might just be a weird little experiment that lives for a few days and then disappears. 🧪

That’s fine too.

The idea is to share more of the process, not just the finished music, and let the project evolve as I keep making things. 🎛️

I don’t know exactly where all of this will end up. And honestly, I think that’s part of the fun.

Continuing June '26 with Origins on @soundmagnetrecords is with this month's second mix+interview of our initiative. "Origins" is where we showcase music, stories & themes based on inspiration from the artists' city of birth or their current cities or places they reside in, spanning artists and mixes from all over the globe.

For mix no. #010 we have a mix by Madrid, Spain based electronic artist @thequasar__

TheQuasar is the moniker of Daniel Lopez. TheQuasar creates ambient and experimental music shaped by memory, atmosphere, and imperfect repetition. Exploring the spaces between place, emotion, and time through evolving textures and layered sound.

Daniel sent us a lovely & rather meditative & reflective #ambient mix for his Origins set. It's come just in time for the Mumbai Monsoon as we're playing this on repeat accompanied by the rainfall & it doesn't fail to transport & calm you with its peaceful soundscapes & ethereal vibe.

Ambient Postcards 06 · Astur 🌿

This weekend was all about slowing down a bit, enjoying good conversations, exploring Gijón and, of course, eating some great food haha. A few quiet days away from the usual routine, which is always nice from time to time.

I’ve put together some memories from the weekend in the carousel, along with this little jam. This time, I used the Yamaha MT8X to play back a cassette recording as the foundation, then added a few layers from the Poly D and the MiniFreak. A bit of pedal processing to bring everything together and shape the sound.

Now it’s back home, back to the routine, and back to making noise in the studio. 😁🌿

After a few days away, it’s time to get back home and into the usual routine. It’s been nice to switch off for a bit, hang out with friends, have some good conversations, explore the city a little (there’ll definitely be an Ambient Postcards coming from this trip 😂) and, of course, enjoy some good food. Asturias has that effect on you hahaha.

These little breaks are always great for changing things up, doing something different and making the most of the time in other ways. But anyway, back home now and ready to get back to work on some projects. 🌿

And to kick off the week, here’s a little jam using the Poly D’s sequencer. I really like how this one turned out, especially since it came together on the first take hahaha. Every now and then, things just seem to flow and you’ve got to make the most of it. It doesn’t happen every day! 😂🎹

And yes, Nox made an appearance too, as usual. She was wandering around having a little look and somehow managed to show up right in the middle of the recording. Quick little thing hahaha. Nothing gets past her! 🐈‍⬛

A little “narration” to wrap up the day. 🌿

Today was more about messing around with the visual side, tweaking a few things in the edit, trying different framing, pacing and little colour details. Also taking some time to give a bit more shape to a few ideas I had lying around half-finished.

In the end, somewhere between one test and another, something interesting usually comes out of it. 🎛️📼

We don’t usually talk too much about the technical side of our setups, even though there are endless ways of doing things haha. In my case, this is simply the setup that made the most sense to me when I started building it. 🎛️🌿

Everything starts with my synths and instruments: MiniFreak, Poly D, Pro-800, Model:Cycles, guitar and bass 🎹🎸. I also use an old Montarbo amp and a Shure SM57 for the guitar.

All the sources go into the Behringer Eurorack 🔌, which acts as the central point before the pedal chain: Zoom MS-70CDR, Chase Bliss Mood MKII, Strymon El Capistan and Strymon Deco 🌀📼🍃.

From there, everything goes through the Yamaha MT8X, which I use not only for recording but also for the character and processing it adds to the signal. Then it goes into the Apollo Solo and Logic 💻, where I record, arrange and shape everything.

I also use the iCON Platform M+ 🎚️ and Yamaha HS7s 🔊, which have been with me for years.

I really like this hybrid approach: part of the process happens outside the computer, and then I bring everything back into Logic for the control and flexibility of the DAW. 🔄🌿

That’s basically my little sound ecosystem for now. It’ll probably keep changing, because there’s no real end to this gear-tinkering thing 😂🔧

Ambient Postcards 05 — Waterline 🌊

Combining memory and sound in this little fragment. This is a reservoir near my home that I’ve always enjoyed visiting. It’s a quiet place, somewhere you can simply spend some time, switch off for a while and leave feeling a little better than when you arrived. 🌿

I don’t really know what it is about this place, but I’ve always had a soft spot for it. I guess that, over time, some places just become part of your personal map, even when there isn’t any particular reason behind it.

For this piece, I combined a couple of layers from the Poly D and MiniFreak, trying to give each one its own space and letting the chain do the rest. A bit of processing, movement and some imperfections along the way. 🎛️

Investigating, shaping, moving forward… another postcard. 📼

At home we call her the Ambient Cat, although she’s also the Reverte Cat sometimes 😂. It all depends on the mood: ambient or reading.

She seems pretty interested in the studio, although being so small, we’ll have to let her explore little by little and, of course, keep a close eye on her.

So, there’s a new companion around here. This is Nox. 🐈‍⬛

Cruising altitude and halfway through the week ✈️ Wednesday is almost over, ladies and gentlemen 😂

After one of those long, slightly heavy days, it was time to clear some of that mental fog you’re left with when the day decides to get a little complicated hahaha. But hey, every cloud has a silver lining, because it gave me another little piece of calm… or at least that’s what it evokes for me.

So, Wednesday survived. Now we just have to make it to Friday with some dignity 😂

Sweet Monday? Nah, I don’t think so 😂 Mondays are heavy haha.

Although maybe they do have one or two sweet parts… or at least that’s what this little piece felt like to me today. Not literally sweet, of course 😂

Poly D doing a little arpeggio, with the MiniFreak playing a pretty simple drone underneath. Nothing too complicated, but together they gave me that feeling.

It’s funny how everyone interprets things differently. What sounds sweet to me might just sound like Monday to someone else 😂🌿
